June was a busy month. Camp Committee is finalizing their plan, while the Recruitment Committee has started interviewing new camp participants. Horizon also held their 13th Annual Golf benefit and there was a Batch Match fundraiser with proceeds benefiting camp. We would like to thank everyone who helped plan, participated or donated to our cause.

Twelve Male Volunteers Needed

We are still searching for male camp volunteers.

Camp is July 19-25.

Volunteers must be at least

16 years old or close. All camp participants need to mail in a signed waiver and have a

pre-camp physical. Please share this email with any males who would like to volunteer. Apply online today.

Camp is Almost Upon us!

There are still items on our wish list. Gift cards are also a great way to help. Gift cards to Jewel and Walmart are easy to transport and allow US to shop locally. Contact Jim Novalinski for more details.

Featured Highlight: Dan Persak

Dan Persak has been involved with Horizon from the very beginning. He was recruited by Brenda Bokowski and a few others when they did a presentation at his high school, St. Rita's, in 1992 and has been coming to camp ever since. Over the years Dan has remained an active member of the Horizon community. He has helped out with several fundraisers, including many bowling fundraisers and running Superbowl Squares for Horizon.

Dan loves every part of camp, but if he had to choose a favorite it would be getting to see friends he hasn't seen during the year and meeting new people. "It's always great to see the new faces that dedicate a week of their year to join our organization and truly help someone, especially when they don't realize what a difference they are making in someone's life."

Outside of Horizon, Dan says he is the happiest man in the world because he is getting married. "My fianc?e is amazing and we are truly looking forward to our wedding on August 14th of this year."

Don't Miss the Horizon Family Picnic

Please join us Saturday, August 15 from 11-3. Last year we relocated to Hastings Lake in Lake Villa, IL, home of our original summer camp.

The facilities are beautiful! There is a huge pavilion, paved hiking trails, and a great playground for the kids. It's the perfect venue for the whole family. We will have plenty of food on the barbecue when you get there!

Camp Visitors' Day

Please join us at camp on July 24th for our Annual Visitors' Day. We'd love to have you come down to camp. Join us for a wonderful day visiting with friends and stay for our Medieval Banquet! Please contact George to let us know if you'll be joining us for dinner.

Cans for Camp

Bring your aluminum cans to the Rexam recycling drive, Saturday, September 12th and raise funds for camp. If you don't live near this location you can bring your pop tops only to camp registration and we will deliver those to the drive in Horizon's name. Contact Anna with any questions.
