Own waterfront property in Yukon? You may own less than you think
Land title ‘defect’ means some water front properties may include 30 metres of Crown land reserve

You may own less than you think you do — 30 metres less.
The Yukon Land Planning Branch recommends waterfront property owners take a close look at their land titles. Those titles may be subject to a "defect" legally depriving them of property they thought they owned.

Des propriétés riveraines irrégulières au Yukon
Radio-Canada
Un arpenteur à la retraite sonne l’alarme au sujet de propriétés riveraines du Yukon dont le cadastre a été enregistré malgré leurs délimitations illégales.

How survey markers and satellites help scientists track Earth’s rising sea levels
The Tribune
If you hike the numerous public trails throughout California, you may have come across a survey monument, especially if you like geocaching. These metallic geodetic monuments mark key survey points — for example, mountain tops.
The survey monuments are mostly 3-inch cast metal disks affixed to the tops of pipes that have been pounded into the ground or fastened on large rocks or concrete pillars. A legend is usually stamped on their faces.

Province plans to fire Alberta real estate council to deal with dysfunction
KPMG review recommended dismissal as ‘most effective and timely’ way to handle governance problems
CBC News
The province will fire all eight remaining members of the Real Estate Council of Alberta and appoint an official administrator, actions recommended by a consultant asked to investigate "significant conflict" on the council.
"They have been focused on their own internal relationship differences and on trivial matters," Service Alberta Minister Nate Glubish said Wednesday, shortly after introducing the Real Estate Amendment Act 2019 in the Alberta legislature.

The Crown of Copyright
Stewart McKelvey Lawyers Avocats

Birch Island citizens give nod to award of $103 million for boundary settlement
Manitoulin Expositer
WHITEFISH RIVER FIRST NATION—It has been a long road since representatives of the band first entered a claim in 2003 alleging that the boundary of their reserve as surveyed in 1851 under the terms of the Robinson Huron Treaty of 1850 did not reflect the historical agreement reached between the Crown and the band, but this weekend, members of the Whitefish River First Nation voted by an overwhelming 97 percent margin to accept a federal government offer to settle a boundary claim.

Autodesk and AGC to Provide Construction Industry with Custom-Fitting Safety Harnesses for Women
Autodesk
According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), falls are the leading cause of private sector worker fatalities in the construction industry. Everyone who works at heights, whether it’s on a roof, scaffolding, or the edge of a tall building, should have properly fitting safety harnesses, yet not all contractors have the supply they need to better protect women in construction. To help address this, Autodesk is funding a grant program with one of the largest construction trade organizations – the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) – to supply select, in-need member contractors with fall protection harnesses sized for women who work at heights.

PI stalemate has surveyors on the brink
Surveyors fear they may be forced into closure as the professional indemnity (PI) stand-off shows no signs of easing.
GMA Certification Group, one of Queensland’s biggest building certifiers, is considering the option after failing to secure a new PI policy to replace its previous cover that expired last Wednesday.
MD Geoffrey Mitchell says the business is presently in “caretaker mode” and is not able to do much work without indemnity protection.
