SAVE THE DATE: Horizons' Anniversary Gala

60 Years en Florecer

This November, Horizons will host its Anniversary Gala, celebrating six decades of service and youth-led action.

Guided by our hummingbird symbol and the theme Past and Present, our logo unites two powerful cultural icons: the hummingbird of the Americas and the African sunbird.

The hummingbird, revered in Latino and Indigenous traditions as a messenger between ancestral and living worlds, joins with the sunbird, celebrated for its brilliance, joy, and fertility. Together, this cultural fusion honors both traditions, reflecting shared symbolism across continents: spiritual messengers, bearers of hope, and symbols of renewal and freedom.

This united emblem honors Horizons’ diverse cultural history and mission to nurture potential, strengthen well-being, heal through culture, and inspire youth to lead change.

Date: Friday, November 14, 2025

Time: 5:00–9:30 PM

Location: Historic Pier 70 Event Space | San Francisco

The program will open with a blessing by our Danzantes and networking reception, and includes youth performances, storytelling, dining, a silent auction, Lotería and dancing. The Gala will bring together youth and families, community members, partners and civic leaders for an evening of connection and celebration.

Sponsorship information and registration are now available. Online individual ticket sales will be available in the coming days.

All proceeds will support Horizons’ life-changing programs for youth and families.

 Summer Highlights

This summer was filled with growth, creativity, and connection at Horizons. Through college tours, youth-led events, hands-on projects and community collaborations, our programs opened new opportunities for young people to learn, lead, and flourish.

Lifeworks Employment Program

A Transformative College Tour Experience

In June, a group of Lifeworks youth participants set out on a transformative college tour to New York City, the first time many had traveled out of state. More than sightseeing, the journey offered an opportunity to imagine futures beyond their current environment.

One youth shared, “I never thought I’d see myself going to college, but now I can actually picture it. Visiting these campuses made it feel real.

The DJ Project Youth Lead the Stage at Tucan's Day

In July, The DJ Project youth collaborated with The Sean Monterrosa Project to honor Sean’s life and legacy at the annual Tucan’s Day Block Party. Sean, a Horizons youth, was tragically taken from us due to police violence.

The DJ Project youth contributed as performers, DJs, and event staff while gaining real-world experience in event production. From designing flyers and social media to managing logistics and even hosting a community clothing drive, participants showcased their leadership, artistry, and commitment to community.

FAV Youth Lead With Creativity, Healing, and Connection

This quarter, youth from our Femmes Against Violenece (FAV) program celebrated some inspiring milestones.

A major highlight was the creation of a youth-led mental health zine, featuring original writing and artwork that explore identity, cultural pressure, and survivorship.

Enterprise for Youth + NewDoor Ventures Partnership

Building Youth Pathways Through Partnership

This year, Horizons proudly launched a new partnership with Enterprise for Youth and NewDoor Ventures to expand opportunities for Transitional Aged Youth (TAY) ages 18-24. Even in the face of funding cuts, this collaboration ensured that young people stayed connected to supportive services and leadership pathways through hands-on roles in The DJ Project and LifeWorks programs.
