Hello Horns Helping Horns Mentors!

In case you haven't seen our Teams Chat, I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself – I am the new Program Coordinator for the Horns Helping Horns program (Paige is still around, she is just now focusing solely on another program). I worked with HHH previously as a Graduate Assistant, and recently completed my Master's in Social Work here at UT. I am so excited to be back with HHH, as I really enjoy working with these students! Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns, and thank you for all that you do.

Warmly,

Jessica Timpson (she/her), LMSW
At this point, we are well into the semester and students may need support as their schedules fill up and assignment deadlines begin approaching.

Our topic for this month's student meeting is Healthcare 101 – we will be covering the basics of insurance, billing, services, and tools. Here are some examples of questions you might ask your mentee regarding their healthcare needs:

  1. Do you currently have health insurance or some type of healthcare plan?
  2. Do you understand how your health insurance works?
  3. How are you making sure that your healthcare needs are being addressed?
  4. Do you need any additional resources or help navigating your healthcare needs?

Off To College? Don't Forget To Pack A Plan For Your Health
"For college freshmen who left home for the first time this year, learning to live with a roommate may be one of the easy challenges. For many, this is also the first time they will schedule medical appointments, fill prescriptions, and make decisions about their own health care. Unfortunately, many students aren't prepared to meet these basic life challenges. But with a little planning and parental guidance, college can be an opportunity for young adults to learn how to stay healthy and figure out how to get the right care when they are ill."
