For those of you who are not familiar with the vast resources that are available to all of us as members of The Garden Club of America, I would encourage you to check out their website at www.gcamerica.org. There is a wealth of information on there regarding upcoming flower shows and conferences (some of which are virtual and require no fee), access to GCA publications and Zone II information. There are virtual roundtables open to all covering a variety of topics as well as online bookclubs — all of it can be found by clicking under “Conferences and Events” once you are logged in as a member. There is even a Holiday Tea which requires no registration and is open to all between 3:00–5:00 p.m. on December 12, in case you feel like swinging by GCA Headquarters while in the city doing Holiday shopping! “Marketplace” has many exciting offerings for sale, including the scarves for this year’s GCA Annual Meeting in Hartford, beautifully designed by our very own Claire O’Brien and Pam Reimers.

Thank you all and looking forward to seeing you soon!

Best, Adrienne

Membership Meeting on October 17

with Debra Kaye of Bear Creek Farm speaks of Dahlias

We had an informative and fun meeting with Debra Kaye from Bear Creek Farm. She told us about her remarkable journey from advertising to flower farming and gave us many inside tips. Her strongest points were to not be afraid to experiment and to follow what works naturally.

A grateful shout-out to Megan Clark for enthusiastically jumping in to help create arrangements for October’s meeting.

Auxiliary News

The October Auxiliary meeting was full of pumpkin decorating for the Mews senior community organized by Decorative Arts and Civic Improvement Committees. It was a beautiful sunny fall day taking cuttings of grasses, flowers from the garden. Decorative Arts chairs Veronica Richter and Nina Weld showed us how to be creative with mosses and succulents. Pumpkins were dropped off to the Mews and decorated their dinner tables. Adrienne Westerfield gave us all a Hortulus overview and showed the auxiliary members the ins and outs of the Hortulus and GCA websites.
