Points for Pilgrims
We are blessed to have Grant Fedoruk of Leading Edge Physio, as a passionate ambassador for our work in the community at Pilgrims Hospice.
Not only did he give a stellar interview on 630 CHED (listen here), but for the past 5 years, Grant has pledged $10 for every point scored by the Edmonton Eskimos, through his Points for Pilgrims Hospice program.
With the Esks winning the Grey Cup this past season (way to go Esks!), Leading Edge will be donating a total of $4,660 to our programs and services this year!
In his interview with Reid Wilkins, Grant notes that people know to give to cancer research, treatment and curing disease - but just as important is what we do for the people who are losing their battles with these diseases:
|
"I think it truly is a reflection of our society, how we look after the terminally ill....
|
"There's no better way to see our money go to making a difference in the community, than helping people literally going through the trials and tribulations of a life-ending disease."
What Grant sees at Pilgrims is a
community. "It's a place for people to get together and share their experiences, have a laugh together lots of times, get a little relief just knowing that
it's not all about dying, it's about
living the last days of their lives."
Like many who give their support to Pilgrims, Grant's personal experience with his dad has influenced his views about death and dying. He saw how his dad could "seize the last years and even days and really make the most of them - and that's what Pilgrims Hospice is all about."
Reid Wilkins described the Points for Pilgrims as "a great program for a great cause". We are so grateful to Grant Fedoruk for his outstanding generosity and commitment to our work at Pilgrims, and for living up to his goal to be "in the community... for the community".

Giving Tuesday, December 1, was a new day on the Pilgrims calendar that brought out the warmth and generosity of our community in special ways.
|
|
| Terry McDade enchanted our Day Program Clients (& contest winners!) with his harp concert |
|
We asked for the Gift of Hope and you
gave a fantastic 76 hours of Grief Counselling ($3,800) to those in the community needing help on their grief journey.

| Watch: Giving the Gift of Hope |
In our short video, Roberta shares how grief counselling helped her move through difficult and "dark times", to finding hope that she will be okay again someday. For everyone who gave so generously on Giving Tuesday, Roberta says:
"Thanks to you, Pilgrims will be able to offer compassion and hope to many people who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The caring support I found at Pilgrims meant the world to me when I needed it, and I know others will be very grateful as well."
From all of us at Pilgrims, a HUGE thank you for supporting our programs through your continued generosity and kindness.

We'd like to thank the "angels" in our community who bring many blessings at this time of year:
|
Stuart MacDougall
for "wooing" us with his voice, piano playing, and mix of country moods which had us nostalgic and toe-tapping by turns!
|
Intuit staff for bringing festive cheer to Pilgrims by putting up our Christmas trees & decorations, and
Geralynn with her team from the Home Depot Distributor Centre for decorating outside so we can truly be part of Candy Cane Lane!
|
Our special thanks goes to Leah Ison - our Social Media Queen and Volunteer of the Month
! The success of Giving Tuesday and our growing presence on Twitter & Facebook would never have happened without you!
|
|
Why Leah volunteers for Pilgrims Hospice:
"My Father passed away from a short journey with cancer in 2004, so I can appreciate the work that Pilgrim's Hospice does in the community. I can see so much value in what they have to offer currently, but also in what they plan for in the future. I want to be part of that and it helps me feel closer to my dad, by doing so.
I wish for everyone who is experiencing, or has experienced, the loss of a loved one to know that there is a peaceful place to turn where hope can be found.
I take pride in the fact that I can help tell the story of Pilgrim's Hospice, as it is a story that needs to be told."
