Giving the Gift of Hope
"At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us."
- Albert Schweitzer

At Pilgrims Hospice, we offer  grief and bereavement services for those struggling with loss and despair, following the death of a loved one.

Sadly, financial hardship can be an added burden at such a difficult time.

We are proud at Pilgrims to never turn anyone away who can't afford our services - and we can't do this without you.

On  Giving Tuesday, December 1st, our goal is to raise the equivalent of 100 hours of grief counselling in 24 hours! Give the gift of grief counselling to those who are otherwise unable to afford it - and Give the Gift of Hope.

Harp Concert Contestharp
Edmonton Harpist, Terry McDade, will give a unique concert at Pilgrims Hospice this Giving Tuesday, Dec 1

Giving Tuesday, December 1, 2015gt

We are so excited by Giving Tuesday this year! Following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a new Canadian movement for giving and volunteering, It's a day where charities, companies and individuals join together to share commitments, rally for favourite causes and think about others.

We have a full day planned for Giving Tuesday, December 1st. We are running our 24-hour Giving the Gift of Hope campaign; harpist Terry McDade is giving a special concert for our clients (see our Harp Concert Contest article for a chance to join us!); and we're giving special thanks to the 35 amazing volunteers whose renovations recently transformed the main level of our building (see the article below).

Deb Birkett, Executive Director, says: "Often, a big part of our focus is on asking - for money, help or support in some way - and it's great to have a day where we can also focus on giving back."

So many of you give so much to Pilgrims Hospice throughout the year. Your generous donations, along with your gifts of time and talents, allow us to keep our programs and services running.

We appreciate every one of you, each and every day - and on Giving Tuesday, we get an extra chance to give you the THANKS you deserve!

Giving Thanks to our Reno Volunteers! reno
CHBA-ER Renovators Community Service Day, October 2015
October was "Renovation Month" and Pilgrims Hospice was thrilled to be the recipient of the first annual Canadian Home Builder's Association - Edmonton Region (CHBA-ER) Renovators' Community Service Day. With the warm-hearted and generous donation of volunteer time, energy and expertise, as well as the renovation supplies, CHBA-ER totally surpassed their wish to "make a significant impact in the community by collectively undertaking a community-based charitable project".

In two days, the main level of our building, as well as our sunroom roof & back stairs, were completely transformed - creating a bright new atmosphere for our clients to enjoy, and a welcome contribution to their comfort and safety.
Reno Volunteers hard at work!

In all, 35 volunteer workers from 20 different companies participated in the renovations. As well as having fun, working together and helping raise awareness for Pilgrims Hospice, CHBA-ER members raised $900 in cash donations, and thousands of dollars in donations of time and materials. (Visit the CHBA-ER website for more information and some great photos from the day.)

Bonnie Ross, our Day Program manager, speaks for us all:

"I personally am in awe over the amount of effort, kindness and overall teamwork that was put into this project. All the little "extras" that were done did not go unnoticed. It's an important touch to have things fresh, bright and clean, and the new atmosphere of our rooms has certainly enhanced the mood of our clients, volunteers & staff."

We can hardly say THANK YOU enough and it's the least we can do to make you all our Volunteers of the Month!
