Hospitality Group Believes in Making It "From Scratch"

Contributor: Jamie Richardson

Scratch Made Hospitality has opened three new food concepts at Gibson Mill Market in the last few months, but they have been creating great food from scratch since right before COVID started. But even a pandemic couldn’t slow these motivated chefs down!

  • 👨‍🍳 When they say, scratch-made, they mean it! From the ice cream at Churn Buddies to the noodles and sauces at Kuni’s Kitchen, owner Ryan Bybee and his business partner David Herzing say, “We believe where our food comes from matters most!”

The much anticipated Barcos Sports & Raw Bar opened in Gibson Mill Market just a few weeks ago, but Scratch Made Hospitality is also behind Kuni’s Kitchen and Churn Buddies whose second location (the first is in Afton Village) also opened in Gibson Mill Market this past month. They also own Barcos Food Company in Oriental, NC.

However, the group is probably best known for Village Corner Comfort Kitchen and Bar whose story of perseverance is only second to the quality of their food!

  • They purchased Joe’s Sports Bar in Afton Village on December 31, 2019. The next day they began 10 weeks of construction to turn the space into their first restaurant concept. They were scheduled to open on March 18, 2020. On March 17, the state shut down all restaurants due to the COVID outbreak.

They didn't let that stop them.

☕ 🍷 This European-Style Café Has Locals Cozying Up Inside and Out!

Contributor: Jamie Richardson

We RARELY encourage our readers to watch a video before reading our wonderful words about a local establishment but consider this virtual tour our way of “setting the table” for this feature. Just be sure to come back to read the rest of the article... 😊

Located in the restored historic Lentz building in the quaint town of Mount Pleasant, Café Lentz greets customers with a warm and inviting atmosphere whether dining inside on the comfy furniture or outside on their double-decker patio.

Their menu features something for everyone for any meal of the day:

Locally roasted coffee and freshly made pastries for breakfast.

🥙 Light lunch items including their signature Lentz biscuits, sandwiches, soup, salads, wraps and flatbreads.

But what really makes this place unique (and this corner of downtown Mount Pleasant for that matter) is how they partner with their neighbors. You can order takeout from 73 & Main with delivery right to your cozy seat at the café, and they are literally connected with an adorable barn door to the Mount Pleasant Bakery 🧁 where you can grab a dessert to pair with your wine.

👮 The café and bakery are co-hosting Coffee with a Cop Friday, March 3rd. It’s a pop-in event, so the public is invited to stop by with friends and family anytime between 2pm and 4pm. This event is an effort to break down the barriers between deputies and the citizens.

Read our entire article online to learn more about the café’s transformation during COVID, what their customers are saying, and the story behind their beautiful mural!

🎉🥂 Dream Come True for West Ave’s Newest Business Owner

Contributor: Jamie Richardson

The Bronzed Beauty Lounge officially opened on West Ave in Downtown Kannapolis on Saturday, Feb 25th! This elevated salon provides luxury services including custom spray tans, facials, and lash extensions.

  • Gigi Palacios is the owner and is an expert spray tan artist, practicing for over 5 years and LOVING EVERY SECOND. She said, “Opening The Bronzed Beauty Lounge is such a dream come true.”

Previously, Gigi worked the Beauty Bar at Maven Salon for three years before deciding she was ready to go out on her own. She originally looked for space in Charlotte, but the West Ave District had come to feel like family to her.

  • She realized she could stay in Kannapolis AND still meet her goals. She approached the owner of Maven and asked if she could take over The Beauty Bar area of the salon and in December of 2022 began the process of remodeling the space into her own beauty lounge.

“Our goal is for our clients to leave feeling a million times better than when they walked in. We’re not only providers, but friends,” said Gigi. “We want to offer a welcoming environment where there’s no worries walking in before your service. The Bronzed Beauty Lounge is a judgment free zone where clients come to feel better about themselves.”
