Later this summer, lawmakers in Washington will depart Capitol Hill for the annual August recess and extended state and district work periods. These weeks provide House and Senate lawmakers with an important opportunity to meet with constituents, visit local businesses, and hear directly from the communities they represent. For NLBMDA members, this is an ideal time to host a member of Congress for a lumber yard tour that showcases your company and highlights the essential role LBM dealers play in supporting local economies, housing, and development across the communities dealers operate in.
NLBMDA strongly encourages members to host an elected official for a tour of their business. Hosting a member of Congress is one of the most effective ways to build and maintain relationships that give our industry a stronger voice in Washington. These visits provide valuable face-to-face interactions with lawmakers and give them an opportunity to meet your employees, learn about your company’s contributions, and see firsthand how federal policy decisions impact your business and the broader LBM industry.
Grassroots advocacy by NLBMDA members is critical to ensuring that the priorities of the LBM industry are reflected in legislation before Congress. NLBMDA staff will support members throughout the process by helping organize and facilitate yard tours, providing assistance with scheduling, sharing background materials and issue briefs on NLBMDA’s legislative priorities, and offering guidance on how to host a successful visit. Members of Congress are especially interested in visiting constituent businesses during these state and district work periods, and we encourage you to take advantage of their upcoming schedules.
With advance notice, NLBMDA staff may also be available to support dealers on-site and help facilitate a yard tour or meeting with elected officials and their staff. NLBMDA is happy to be part of these visits and assist members in making the experience as productive and impactful as possible. Dealers interested in having NLBMDA members staff present can indicate so on the form provided below.
