A PROGRAM BUILDS A "BRIDGE" FOR STUDENTS TO PURSUE NURSING AT HOSTOS |
(Left to right) Dr. Carlos Molina, Vice President of the Division of Continuing Education & Workforce Development; Isis M. Mejia, student; Irfan Hasan, Program Officer-Health & People with Special Needs of the New York Community Trust; and Darryl E. Rogers, Senior Coordinator for Bridge-to-LPN Program.
|
Ten students, who successfully completed the Division of Continuing Education & Workforce Development's first Bridge-to-LPN program, were honored at a recognition ceremony on October 4, 2013. These students refused to let any obstacles stand in their way as they worked toward earning a degree in nursing. So it was fitting that Hostos student Isis M. Mejia, a bilingual, single mother of two, who received the highest score on the CUNY Assessment Tests (CATS), was selected to be the student speaker at the recognition ceremony. She is also smart enough to know that sometimes you need to cross a few bridges before you get to your ultimate destination.

Their hard worked helped to restore, refresh and reinvigorate an important Bronx institution, and they were thanked for their service by New York State Assemblyman Mark Gjonaj, who represents the Bronx's District 80.

FOR THE FOUR ADVINCOLA BROTHERS, HOSTOS IS A FAMILY AFFAIR
(Left to right) The Advincola brothers-Carlos Ramn Jr., Esteban, Jose, and Elias-have helped take the family atmosphere at Hostos Community College to a whole new level.
|
When Esteban Advincola walks through the halls of Eugenio Mara de Hostos Community College, some people mistake him for his brother Elias...or his brother Josu...or his brother Carlos Ramn Jr.
That's because Esteban is one of four brothers who are currently making Hostos their academic home.
And if you think they might get tired of being together, or doing classwork, you don't really know the Advincolas. Their love for Hostos and the opportunities it provides is exceeded only by their love for their family.
