End-of-Vintage Pricing on an Extraordinary Piedmont Red!

Plus a 93-Point Grüner for 16.79...

We try to stay away from superlatives, but when we featured the 2014 Nizza from Olim Bauda last year, we could not help but proclaim it to be the "best Barbera we have ever tasted." We awarded a super-enthusiastic 93+ point review and you guys gobbled up every bottle we had!

A few weeks ago, we learned there were more cases of this gem at the importer's temperature controlled warehouse and made a deal to purchase it at a reduced price. Today, we pass these savings along to you!

"Olim Bauda remains one of the real under the radar gems in Piedmont."
- Vinous, Antonio Galloni (8/2015)

The 2014 Olim Bauda Nizza is truly superb. Fans of the Barbera grape will flip over it, and - because of the complexity, purity, depth and age-worthiness - so will lovers of old-school Cabernet. At today's "beats-all" price of $25.99, it is a serious winner.

2014 Tenuta Olim Bauda Nizza
Piedmont, Italy
The 2014 Nizza from Tenuta Olim Bauda blew us away a year ago and now, after a year of aging perfectly in a temperature controlled warehouse, it is even better!

Offering a highly complex combination of flavor and structure, this bottling from the Bertolino family is as good as Barbera gets. It's alarmingly delicious and alive with electric acidity, covering your palate with multiple layers of fruit, earth and savory notes that expand and develop sip after satisfying sip.

The flavors are incredibly pure, featuring bright and dense red fruits, smoke, olive, fresh ground espresso and gritty red earth. The structure is serious and very well balanced, with medium-plus tannins, moderate alcohol and classic acidity. The finish seems to go on forever. After recently sampling this beauty again, we found it shows beautifully from the moment the cork is popped and continues to improve for five full days.

Winemaker Dino Bertolino suggests his Nizza is as cellar-worthy as a top Barolo or Brunello. We can't argue with him.

While we've adored Barbera from famed growers like Conterno, Vietti and Voerzio, none have excited our palates the way this offering from Olim Bauda has. A year ago our tasting panel awarded an unprecedented 93+ points. That score easily stands today.

The winery makes just over 1000 cases per year. Given the low production, it's no surprise we only found two online listings. Today's end-of-vintage price blows them both away. At $25.99, this is a slam dunk. Grab a few bottles to drink now, and a few more to stash away to enjoy several years down the road!

Are You Having "Fum" Yet?
A 93-Point Grüner Veltliner for $16.79!

2017 Wimmer-Czerny  "Fumberg" Grüner Veltliner
Wagram, Austria
Wimmer-Czerny, a  Demeter Certified Biodynamic estate, has been producing wine since the 1960s. Today's offering is a 2017 bottling from a site called "Fumberg" and, besides being fun to say, it is really fun to drink!

"If you are looking for the finest Veltliners of the 2017 vintage, Czerny's highly delicious, biodynamic 2017 Fumberg should be one of your choices."
- Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate

From our first sip, we could not wait to get this delicious and classic Grü-V into our stores and into your glass. The "Fum" leads off with a fruit basket of flavors - peach, pear and apricot along with delicious tropical notes. The fruit is supported with classic notes of garden fresh radish, fresh crunchy salad greens like watercress or arugula, and Grüner's tell-tale note of white pepper. Awarding 93 Points, a practically unheard of score for Grüner at this price, Wine Advocate's Stephan Reinhardt writes this totally mouthwatering review...

"Hans Czerny's 2017 Grüner Veltliner Fumberg is a picture book "GV" from the Wagram. The subtle bouquet is bright, fine and fresh but also ripe and just beautifully balanced, with a very delicate and fresh, even flinty-scented aroma. Highly delicate and elegant on the palate, this is a stimulating, piquant and salty Veltliner with both tension and finesse. It is also stimulatingly pure and salty in the finish. For many, many years this has been one of my favorite Grooners in all Austria because it is so delicate, like almost no other wine from this variety. If you are looking for the finest Veltliners of the 2017 vintage, Czerny's highly delicious, biodynamic 2017 Fumberg should be one of your choices. Tasted in Vienna, September 2018. Drink date: 2018 - 2033."
- 93 Points, Wine Advocate (December 2018)

Enjoy this sleek white on its own or with your favorite  Thai, Indian, sushi, shellfish and more.  A Grüner of this quality, complexity and age-worthiness would typically sell in the $25 to $30 range. At a mind-boggling $16.79 per bottle, the 2017 Fumberg  is a no-brainer to stock up on!
