Logan Battaglia: "THE" Summer Intern

To call Logan Battaglia just our summer intern somehow diminishes the true nature of this Syracuse University Maxwell School Policy Studies student going into her senior year. Logan has done a little of everything here at HHQ this past summer: intake for our loan and grant customers, submitting environmental reviews for various cases, helped in real estate, at the front desk--really with anything we could and did possibly ask.

Logan is an obvious over-achiever, a great student, a participant in the Irish Dance world championships, a member of S.U.'s marching band, someone who has studied abroad (theater for something different!) and working at this crazy nonprofit housing and community development organization while also prepping to get her Master's in public administration.

While we try diligently to keep her in Syracuse and at HHQ, we know in our hearts she is meant for bigger and better things. Thanks Logan and best of all the luck (and hard work)!

Join us for an open house this Saturday, 10am-12noon at 346 W. Kennedy Street in Syracuse. This newly constructed, single-family home on Syracuse's southside is part of Onondaga County's New Home Construction Project. Talk to realtors from CNY Affordable Realty, HHQ's Homeownership Center and Lending teams and tour this brand new 3-bedroom house. If you haven't already, sign up for HHQ's 8-Hour HomeBuyer Education Course to get started on your path to homeownership! Or if you already have your Course certificate and have a pre-approval in hand and want to get started immediately, fill out a Home Purchase Inquiry Form.

A Wee Bit of the Green in Tipp Hill

The Tipperary Hill Neighborhood Association has re-established the Tipperary Hill Purchase Rehab Grant Program. The program offers up to a $6,000 grant for exterior property improvements to Tipperary Hill Neighborhood home buyers.

The program is available for properties that were formerly vacant and/or non-owner occupied. Properties must be purchased July through December of 2024 within the targeted Tipperary Hill neighborhood. You can find more information about the program and an application on our website here.

Binghamton T-HIP Program Kickoff

HHQ joined City of Binghamton Mayor Jared M. Kraham, Binghamton nonprofit First Ward Action Council and representatives from New York State Homes and Community Renewal to announce $5 million to help Binghamton homeowners make critical home repairs.

The funding comes from the Targeted Home Improvement Program (T-HIP), a new State pilot program that awards grants to non-profits serving low- and moderate-income homeowners. Funding from the program went to 10 communities across the State with high rates of homeownership among people of color and with significant indicators of housing distress.

Say It Ain't So! Block Blitz on Hiatus for 2024

We've decided to take a little break from Block Blitz this year. As you know, HHQ moved to a new location some months ago and we have lots of houses that we're getting ready to build before the snow starts flying--i.e., we are crazy busy. We have great and exciting news about next year's Block Blitz, but we can't spill the beans yet. Stay tuned as we hope to have some great volunteer opportunities on our construction sites (think trees! flowers! shrubs!) and we'll keep everyone apprised of any news we can share, when we find out we can share it.

If you would like to support our programs and services in a way other than sweating and eating a pizza crust and burned hamburger, please visit our donate now button below or email Karen at info@homehq.org. As always, we appreciate your support!

Very Important Story about New Home Sales

Big digger starting to dig a foundation in a large area of vacant land in Solvay, NY

While there is a very important story about rising home prices in Onondaga County on Syracuse.com here that just came out (we've given you a gift link), the photo above is really just our choice for cutest visitor to our open house event the other week. He did lose the pacifier for one photo, but was not at all pleased about that situation even though he was wearing the sharpest button up shirt.
