Jen Hodge and Janna LeBlanc are nearing completion at the Spring Teacher Training. They have blown through the training with only minor setbacks, and are in the final stretch! Believe it or not, they will be here to teach at Bikram Yoga on the Island at this month! After Graduation on June 14 the girls will come back to the area as interns with our school for six months to practice teaching and develop their skills. After a well-deserved one day off, they will be teaching their first classes the third week of June. They will be teaching frequently over their first couple of weeks, so please come show your support and love to our two brand new teachers. Remember to be patient with new teachers. They have so much information and enthusiasm to share after their nine-week intensive, residential experience. They will be learning to condense their skills and talents into 90 minute classes as they learn to share their knowledge with you. And what you get out of class, depends on what YOU put into it. Our two beautiful goddesses of the desk will return to Florida after graduating from Bikram's Teacher Training and are ready to party with everyone to celebrate and share in their transformations and experience. They will be ready to party with everyone on our Summer Solstice June 21 at Fishlips!. They want to dance and they want to have some fun with all of their great friends. and family! They both THANK YOU all for your cards, care packages full of inspiration and support!
Please RSVP at the front desk or call 321-452-YOGA (9642)

Jen and Janna both passed the BIG test Suzanne surprised them with to teach a posture to the 300 students taking class that Suzanne had the privilege to lead during her visit! Suzanne was inspired by the discipline and powerful energy of the training. She returned home to show us all how to BURN BABY BURN!

Student of the Month
JUNE 2014
|
Congratulations to
John Ippolito
our HOT June Student of the Month.
We are excited to highlight John's discipline and dedication to his yoga practice. He has practiced for over SEVEN years at BYOTI. John has participated in many of our community events. We love John's entrance and exit before and after classes...he is always with a smiling happy face! Thank you John for opening up and sharing with us! May your life continue to open up and touch others with your "smiling happy face"!
John's Testimony: After your first Bikram class what was your first impression? I remember my first class vividly. I was walking into Home Depot for a home improvement project and noticed the Bikram Yoga sign in the parking area. I decided to stop in the studio to inquire about the practice. Courtney, the instructor that evening, was behind the desk. She sold me on a 30 day membership and re-assured me the practice would change my life. Well after the first class I wasn't sure I wanted to return; I was exhausted, hungry and dehydrated. It reminded me of the grueling wrestling practices as a teenager. But after a shower and re-hydrating; I found myself euphoric with energy. OK, so it did change my life (happy smiling face)! My curiosity in yoga was sparked by my chiropractor in my mid-forties. Life's responsibilities (stresses) were severally affecting my health, disposition and overall well-being. I wasn't sure about the type of yoga to practice. Seeing the Bikram Yoga sign in the parking lot; assisted me in making that decision. "Bikram found me; I didn't find Bikram" (so glad it did!). What drives you to continue to practice? What keeps bringing you back? There are several reasons for the continued practice. They are: overall mental, physical and spiritual health. Mental health includes the clarity to make peacefully decisions while living in a stressfully world. Physical health includes the flexibility, strength and endurance to live a healthy fruitful life. Finally, spiritual health includes the wisdom and internal peace to understand myself and connect with others while encouraging them to follow their passions. I discovered within myself a gentler, kinder, happier, and peaceful self (what a way to live!). I continue to come back for the following reasons: the staff/instructors and personal challenge to live a healthy life. The staff and instructors are genuinely interested in the student's well-being. Their kindness and love come through in every class. Next time you're in class, listen to their firm expression of love and encouragement. I find it energizing! Finally, my personal challenge is to live a life of total health (mind, body and soul) to help others and leave this world a little better than I came into it. Bikram yoga is one attribute in my life that assists me with that challenge. What are some of the benefits and changes you've seen in yourself? I've been practicing yoga for five years. During that time, I severally broke my neck at the C7 vertebrae, damage to the left knee cap, and dislocated jaw. After recovery I returned to yoga practice. The benefits and changes include: full recovery; yoga stimulated the damaged areas with oxygenated blood flood which assisted in the final recovery process. Other changes and benefits include extended range of flexibility, restful night's sleep, increased energy/stamina, mental alertness, and a greater sense of internal peace/stillness.
What is your favorite posture in the series and why? Half Tortoise Pose; I enjoy the relaxation, increased blood circulation to the brain, and releasing the tension in my neck and shoulders. What is your greatest challenge about the yoga? Yourself? The greatest challenge about yoga is "staying in the present"; not letting my mind wander. Whereas, the greatest challenge to me, is lessening life's demanding responsibilities to make time for yoga. I continue to assess what in necessary and could wait. What advice can you give to a 1st timer after they complete the class? Get to class "at least" every other day, stay in the room, and most importantly do not talk yourself out of committing to one month of classes. You'll notice the changes in your mind, body and outlook in life (disposition). Is there anything you would like to add? I would like to sincerely thank Suzanne, Joe and all the staff for their kindness, love and continued encouragement for their ongoing commitment in such a fine yoga studio. Namaste. | John in set up for Half Tortoise Pose, preparing for his FAVORITE yoga pose!

REAL MEN DO YOGA!!!
Bikram Yoga is excellent for men's health and well-being. Did you know that yoga originated for men only? Whether you want to reduce stress, get in shape, heal injury or actualize your highest potential, Bikram Yoga can help you reach your goal!! Pictured from Top to Bottom left: Jim Krosky in three parts of Awkward Pose, Robert Corona in Fixed Firm Pose, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, former NBA great, and Jaokim Noah currently with the Chicago Bulls with Bikram, Dr Jonathan Treat Paine at BY New Orleans, Joe Elliott in Toe Stand at Cumberland Falls KY, and Bishnu Ghosh with young Bikram Choudhury.
Jennifer White writes....
My dad started private yoga sessions with me last fall. He was having some lower back and hip issues that I was confident yoga could help-they did and he's now officially a yoga junkie.
The unfortunate thing is that many men don't even get a chance to experience yoga's benefits-because yoga has a reputation of being for girls. There are a lot of reasons for this misconception, but I think one is simply that there are a lot of female yoga practitioners in the U.S. It takes a confident guy to walk into a class for girls-yet yoga's not for girls.
Originally many of yoga's asanas were designed for male bodies by male bodies, and today's men can still get so much out of yoga-if they only give it a chance. So here are five great reasons to take your dad to yoga class with you for Father's Day. 1. Stretch it out. Older American men in particular grew up with strength being primary and flexibility being secondary-and now this imbalance can catch up with them. So take your dad to yoga class with you and get his stretch on. 2. Men need zen. One of the things my dad has benefited from the most-which I know surprised him-is the meditative aspect of yoga. Getting inside of yourself and feeling the sensations in your body quiets your mind by default-you are concentrating on one thing, and staying in the present moment. So zen out with dad-with yoga. 3. Wanna go to the gun show? While yoga does offer a lot in the flexibility department, it does build muscle and strength too. My dad was happily surprised that I was able to give him yoga exercises that largely take away his need to lift weights. All of us can benefit from building muscle-including your dad. Yet another reason to get your yoga on with him. 4. Share what you love. An added benefit to my dad's new yoga practice is that we share something now that's really special to me in my life-and he gets it, from actual experience, he understands why I love yoga. Sharing something you love with someone you love is a great recipe for bonding-so go ahead and practice yoga with your dad. 5. Inspiration. At first, you might think your dad will get inspiration from you and your practice-especially if you've been practicing for awhile. Let me tell you, it's definitely dad who will provide the inspiration. I am so impressed with my dad; with how well he listens to his body, and how much he's able to understand. Practicing yoga requires you to have an intimate conversation with your body, and it often takes time just to hear what your body is saying-much less ask it to do micro-adjustments for you in return. So take your dad to yoga class, and you might find inspiration as you watch him rock out an amazing pose. With Father's Day right around the corner, it's time for us yogis to reconsider why yoga is considered an activity for girls. Practicing yoga offers benefits that extend way beyond our physical body-and everyone can benefit from peace of mind. So tell your dad that strong dudes (and REAL MEN) try everything once-including yoga.
Happy Father's Day, future yogis.
