Men and Aging with Paralysis
Aging is an important but often overlooked aspect of living with paralysis. While men living with paralysis experience a myriad of physical and emotional changes as they age, finding resources and discussion to assist in navigating these changes can be difficult. The Men and Aging with Paralysis webinar will provide an in-depth exploration of the impacts of the aging process and an understanding that men are not alone in facing the changes associated with growing older.
This webinar will feature a panel discussion among four men living with paralysis who will share their personal experiences with aging as well as provide insight and advice. Topics to be covered include the physical changes brought on by aging, including weight gain, sexual health issues, and pain, as well as the emotional impacts, such as increased isolation, decreased self-worth, and the transition to retirement. Strategies and resources for addressing the challenges associated with aging with paralysis will also be presented to empower men to maintain their health and quality of life as they age.
Listen to Stephen Macintosh - NAF Board Member - as he shares his experience on this panel.

Kelly Brush Foundation
Invites Applications from People with
Spinal Cord Injuries to
Active Fund Scholarship Opportunity
APPLICATION TIMELINE: August 2, 2021 - September 29, 2021.
MONEY AVAILABLE: Grants rarely exceed $5,000 and the average grant amount generally is around $3,500.
ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible, individuals with paralysis caused by spinal cord injury who reside in the US. Other conditions are not eligible for our grant programs, including (but not limited to) spina bifida, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, post-polio, Guillain-Barre´ Strohl Syndrome, ALS, all other neuropathies, and all other conditions causing disability.
PURPOSE: The Kelly Brush Foundation is dedicated to making active lifestyles a reality for those who have experienced a spinal cord injury. To that end, KBF is inviting applications for its Active Fund. Through the fund, the Foundation will provide grants to individuals with paralysis caused by spinal cord injury for the purchase of adaptive sports equipment. The fund will consider funding any piece of sports or recreation equipment specifically designed for people with disabilities that allow an applicant to be active. It should be noted that first-hand experience using the desired equipment in the environment you intend to use it is extremely important to the Grant Committee. Although the Foundation gives preference to equipment that provides some fitness benefit, it will consider applications for power equipment where applicants can persuasively explain why that type of equipment is the best and most appropriate piece of equipment needed to live an active lifestyle.

Meet Korbin...
We're so glad Korbin and his family are happy with their new Safety Sleeper System. Korbin, age 3, has neuromuscular scoliosis and his physician requested we provide him with the system as he had outgrown his crib but a regular bed was not safe for him.
"I can’t thank y’all enough for helping us provide this bed for our son. We have struggled for 6 months trying to get insurance to cover this bed and we’re denied multiple times. This bed has provided not only a safe place for our son to sleep, but also peace of mind for us as parents knowing he can’t get hurt. He absolutely loves his “big boy” bed. Even his big brother has asked to sleep with him! We are eternally grateful for your generosity and support for our son. "

Meet NAF's Board Member...
Brian Tatum
Brian Tatum is in his second term on our board. Before that he was a sponsor through his business.
He says, “We helped many good organizations and foundations but NAF stood out partially because of their structure and mainly because of their cause. So many of us have had “close calls” and “near misses” during our lives. Many foundations are working towards a cure for spinal injuries but NAF is working now to help people achieve mobility, independence, and freedom in their daily living.”
Brian has been happily married to Mary for 40 years. They have three children but are now enjoying life as empty nesters with frequent visits from their grandchildren.

We Need Your Help
Donate ~ Sponsor ~ Volunteer

Your $25 donation will help provide clean catheters to a paralyzed child for one month when their insurance won't cover the expense.
Your $100 donation will help build a wheelchair ramp so we can get our clients out of rehab and through their front door at home.
Your $200 donation will help widen the doorways in their homes so their wheelchair can fit through the bathroom door. Insurance doesn't covers home modifications.
Your $500 donation will help provide life-changing medical equipment: wheelchairs and specialized shower chairs, etc. Most insurance only covers a small part of wheelchairs, if any, and no "bathing aids" are covered.
