NC Health and Human Services Secretary Dev Sangvai and Wake County Sheriff Willie Rowe to Announce New Mental Health Treatment Options for Defendants Deemed Incapable to Proceed

RALEIGH — Leaders from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services in partnership with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office will hold a joint news conference at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the Wake County Detention Center, located at 3301 Hammond Road in Raleigh, North Carolina. 


Officials will announce the launch of capacity restoration services at the Wake County Detention Center for defendants with mental illness whom the court has determined Incapable to Proceed to trial. The new NC RISE program in Wake County works to ensure the right mental health care is available for all North Carolinians. The expansion of services will allow defendants to move through the judicial process more quickly. NC RISE aims to strengthen and improve capacity in both the legal and behavioral health systems in North Carolina.

Faith-based Organization Seeks to Help Those Struggling with Substance Use


More than 100 churches gathered this week to learn about ways to help curb the number of overdose deaths in North Carolina’s African American Community.  DMHDDSUS Community Outreach and Faith-based coordinator, Dr. Tobias LaGrone, D. Min., gave a presentation on on prevention and models for recovery at the Rowan Baptist Association.  He also educated the crowd about two tools dedicated to supporting people on their mental health journey – the 988 crisis line and the NC Peer Warm Line. Both phone lines provide confidential, free support 24/7.






Celebrating Autism Acceptance Month at Side By Side

 

We celebrated Autism Acceptance Month by hosting a panel discussion among people with autism. Please check out the recording to hear our guest speakers share the expertise of their lived experience.

NCDHHS Seeks Feedback on Medicaid Managed Care Plans

NCDHHS is asking for feedback on how to improve services for beneficiaries, providers, health systems and plans under the Managed Care System. Since the 2023 Medicaid launch in North Carolina, NCDHHS has gathered valuable insights from stakeholders and has shared that information in a paper called Improving Member Health Through Managed Care Program Enhancements: North Carolina’s Approach to Standard Plan Re-Procurement.


The paper and a summary are available on the NC Medicaid Policy Papers webpage.

Inclusion Works: Autism Awareness Month

LiNC IT Autism Employment Program

Join us to learn about best practices to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) on their path to achieving Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE).
