DMH/DD/SUS Team Participates in Kermes Cultural Event to

Promote Mental Health Resources

On September 28, the DMH/DD/SUS team participated in the Kermes cultural event hosted by El Futuro, an organization dedicated to supporting the mental health of the Hispanic/Latino community. The event welcomed over 1,000 attendees and celebrated Hispanic heritage with live music, traditional food, and a vibrant marketplace featuring artisan products and community resources.

As part of our outreach efforts, DMH/DD/SUS team members distributed Peer Warmline bags containing educational materials about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and other crisis services. This direct engagement helped raise awareness of vital mental health resources among community members, many of whom may face barriers to accessing care. The event also provided a valuable opportunity to connect with individuals and families in a culturally affirming environment.

Celebrating the Contributions

People with Disabilities Make in the Workplace

NCDHHS and the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities are celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October by highlighting the contributions people with disabilities are making in workplaces across North Carolina. Visit the NCDHHS website to read five success stories of people who have overcome their disability-related barriers to find meaningful employment and the VR employees who are committed to building a strong and inclusive workforce.

Join a Brain Injury Advisory Council Subcommittee

The Brain Injury Advisory Council (BIAC) is seeking committed individuals to serve on one or more of our subcommittees. This is a valuable opportunity to help shape policy, guide service delivery, and elevate the voices of individuals with brain injuries across the state. We welcome people with lived experience, providers, and community members to participate. You don't have to be a BIAC member to serve on a subcommittee. If you are interested in becoming a member of a BIAC subcommittee, please complete this brief form.
