North Carolina Governor Josh Stein has proclaimed September 7-13 as Direct Support Professionals (DSP) Recognition Week to honor the dedicated individuals who support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The proclamation recognizes that DSPs make a profound impact every day to help people with I/DD live with greater independence, dignity, and inclusion. Through their compassion and commitment, they create safer, more supportive communities where people with I/DD can learn, grow, and thrive.

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in addressing mental health, substance use disorder and suicide prevention in the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. Tarang aims to improve mental health outcomes in the AAPI community through community development grounded in cultural relevance, equity, and empowerment. We are seeking highly motivated, passionate individuals to be thought leaders on developing effective ways to bring awareness, support, and education into their community. You must live in North Carolina and be a member of the AAPI community. The deadline to apply is September 13.

Caregiving for the Aging Veteran Town Hall

Veterans, their spouses, caregivers, and family members are encouraged to attend this informative event. Information/education tables from the VA and community organizations will be onsite.

- An overview of caregiving concepts, the importance of self-care, and the caregiver’s role in supporting their loved ones.
- A summary of VA services, including the Caregiver Support Program, the Program of General Caregiver Support Services, and the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers.

Stronger Together Conference
Changing Rhythms, New Movements

This one-day interactive event supports the mental health and wellness of Black youth and young adults through cultural connection, creative expression, and community care. The day includes wellness booths, keynote speaker Rafiah Maxie, youth-led performances, and access to support resources. The event will bring together youth, young adults, and advocates for a day of learning, healing, and community building. Made possible in part by NCDHHS.

SERNRA / NAMRC / NCRA Training Conference
Reconnecting: Rising Strong in Rehabilitation

The Southeast Region of the National Rehabilitation Association (SERNRA), the National Association of Multicultural Rehabilitation Concerns (NAMRC), and the North Carolina Rehabilitation Association (NCRA), is hosting a joint conference.
This is an opportunity for training, education, and credentialing of our diverse membership that believes excellence and outcomes are achieved by upholding the utmost importance of continuous learning, professional development, and personal enrichment.
The conference also provides networking to reconnect with partners and people across a large spectrum of rehabilitation professionals. During the two-day conference, concurrent sessions will be offered that focus on topics that intersect disability specific topics, ethics, special populations, and create a momentum to rise strongly in rehabilitation.
