Governor Josh Stein proclaimed March as “Brain Injury Awareness Month” highlighting the importance of raising awareness, supporting individuals affected by brain injuries, and promoting prevention efforts statewide. Brain Injury Awareness Month is a time to promote awareness about the prevalence of brain injuries, while also highlighting the increasing availability of services and supports for individuals living with brain injury in North Carolina.
Roughly 80,000 people in North Carolina sustain a TBI annually, on average, with many survivors left permanently disabled and with impacts to their movement, communication, memory, thinking, and processing of emotions. For information regarding awareness and education events this month, visit the Brain Injury Association of NC (BIANC), a statewide advocacy organization for the brain injury community.
