Workforce Development & Continuing Education Scholarship Application Open Through July 11, 2025

The Governor’s Institute, through the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Use Services, will fund limited and approved requests for continuing education in an effort to further enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities of treatment providers for individuals seeking recovery from substance use disorders. Funds must be utilized in accordance with state policies and directed to the entity that is responsible for coursework delivery. Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on merit and need, on a first-come, first-served basis.  Individuals with a need for SUD specific credit hours (individuals with a CDAC; LCAS; or CCS) take priority. Apply by Friday, July 11 in order to be registered by Monday, July 14.

Master of Ceremonies at NCDHHS ADA Anniversary Celebration

July 26 marks the 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a civil rights law that promotes equal opportunity for people with disabilities. To commemorate the occasion, NCDHHS will hold a celebration at the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources on July 24, 2025 from10:00-12:00 p.m. July 26 marks the 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a civil rights law that promotes equal opportunity for people with disabilities. 

Director Crosbie will be joined by Olmstead Director Deb Goda, EIPD Director Kathie Smith, Easterseals PORT Health IPS Peer Specialist Patrick Williams, Easterseals PORT Health Employment Specialist Natalie Flores and DSDHH Director Tony Davis to discuss how the ADA provides increased access and opportunity for all.


Parking for the event can be found across the street from the building at the N.C. State Government Visitor Parking lot. Light refreshments will be provided. There will be American Sign Language interpretation and live captioning available during the celebration. Guests are asked to register by July 14.  

Hope4NC Update

Our Hope4NC Teams continue to offer hope and provide essential living supplies to those impacted by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. In Cherokee, Hope4NC Vaya Health teams distributed food and beverage at a recent community outreach event co-hosted by the Christian Appalachian Project, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) and Mountain CORE Mission. Teams also distributed Hope4NC materials to more than 100 households that helped strengthen Hope4NC’s mission in the region.   


Hope4NC Vaya Health teams participated in a food and supply distribution event hosted by The Justice Project from Wilkesboro, NC. This event not only addressed immediate food insecurity, but staff also provided information on emotional support services, housing referrals, and other recovery resources to help individuals and families recover and rebuild. 

State of NC Mental Health Town Hall Meeting

Join NCDHHS and NAMI NC for an impactful town hall meeting featuring DMH/DD/SUS Director Kelly Crosbie and other key government and medical officials. Hear about upcoming legislation affecting mental health, mental health priorities in state policy, and future planning for programs including re-entry and school mental health. It will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, 7:00-8:00 p.m. Register for the meeting.

2025 NC Medicaid Managed Care Quality Strategy Approved 

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires all states contracting with Medicaid Managed Care plans to develop and submit a quality strategy on a three-year cycle. The 2025 NC Medicaid Managed Care Quality Strategy is a roadmap through which the state articulates its vision and goals in the NC Medicaid Managed Care program. States must review and update their quality strategy at least every three years or whenever there have been significant changes in the state’s Medicaid program. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has finalized the 2025 NC Medicaid Managed Care Quality Strategy (NC Quality Strategy) and received approved from CMS.   

 

The 2025 NC Quality Strategy includes the following key changes from the 2023 Quality Strategy: 


  • Updated the managed care implementation timelines; 
  • Updated the language related to Tailored Plans and the Children and Families Specialty Plan (CFSP)42 CFR 438.340
  • Included information related to Medicaid expansion population; 
  • Updated relevant quality measure sets; and 
  • Included benchmarks for the quality measures that can evaluate how NCDHHS is progressing toward the Medicaid program Quality Strategy goals.

Side by Side with DMH/DD/SUS

Increasing Access with Integrated Care

Join us to learn about policies and programs that affect the MH/IDD/SU/TBI community. Side by side, we will work together to better understand and improve our system. We will listen closely to one another, and we will share ideas for public policy that will improve lives in NC. This month's focus is on Integrated Care. We discuss Collaborative Care, Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics and NC-PAL, a statewide Psychiatry Access Line.
