LIFESAVERS
May 2013
Greetings!
Summer will be here soon, and you can help us beat the heat.
WHEN THE HEAT'S ON

Day shelter: a summer lifesaver

Texans love the great outdoors, but when the heat's on, we head indoors to cool down. That's important because shelter can mean the difference between sickness and health once average high temperatures top 90 degrees.

Beating the heat is easy for most, but homeless men and women may be exposed to summer temperatures longer for lack of a place to call home. For the young, the old and those living with mental illness or chronic disease, the health risks of heat are greater still, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Air-conditioning is the single best defense against heat-related illness and death, CDC experts say, and that makes the Day Resource Center for the Homeless a lifesaver in summer.

We're gearing up to beat the summer heat, and you can help. Make a gift to the Day Resource Center, and join us in protecting life and health when the heat's on.

Your gift of $100, $250, or $500 provides:

  • Lifesaving daytime shelter in our air-conditioned facility
  • Cold water by the case, up to 10 cases consumed daily
  • Shower services and laundry for up to 600 guests a day
  • Housing assistance, the best gift of all

Donate now and help us beat the heat this summer. Give online or mail your gift to Day Resource Center for the Homeless, P.O. Box 0871, Fort Worth, TX 76101.
