Welcome Jess Cifizzari!


Community Investment Collaborative has hired Jessica Cifizzari as the Rural Ecosystem Navigator covering GO Virginia's Region 9.


Jess is assisting Terry Woodworth in connecting small businesses with resources to help them sustain and grow their enterprise. Jess is a small business owner in Orange County, a 2021 graduate of CIC’s 16-week Entrepreneur Workshop, and a CIC Workshop leader. She is passionate about helping other entrepreneurs reach their goals and become vital members of their local communities. Jess can be reached at jessica@cicville.org.

We often see new businesses receive letters to file forms for a fee that you can file yourself for FREE! Save your money and follow these tips:


  • Register your EIN (Employer’s Identification Number) directly through IRS.gov for FREE.


  • Obtain your Reseller’s Certificate for sales tax exemption with your FREE Sales and Use Tax Registration through tax.virginia.gov.


  • Receive FREE Employment Posters when you register with the Virginia Employment Commission at vec.virginia.gov.

SBA Certification Upgrade and Pause on August 1st


Starting August 1, initial applications for government contracting certifications will pause for the month of August to implement a planned upgrade of all of SBA's certification system. The upgraded system is expected to be available for new certifications in early September. A public-facing fact sheet is downloadable. FAQs about Educational Assistance Programs


The Internal Revenue Service issued frequently asked questions (FAQs) related to educational assistance programs. Taxpayers may exclude certain educational assistance benefits from their gross income if they are provided under an educational assistance program. Amounts paid under an educational assistance program are generally deductible by the employer as a business expense.

Employer-Provided Childcare Tax Credit


If you provide childcare services to your employees, you may be eligible for this general business credit. It covers qualified expenditures for a childcare facility and for childcare resource and referral. The Employer-Provided Childcare Credit offers employers a tax credit up to $150,000 per year to offset 25% of qualified childcare facility expenditures and 10% of qualified childcare resource and referral expenditures.

Brighter Future Fund


Projects that promote viability, resilience, and innovation will be considered for grants of up to $5,000 through the National Grant for Historically Underserved Farmers & Ranchers.

VTC Grant Programs


The Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) offers several funding programs to assist the Virginia travel industry. The following VTC specialty grant programs are:

  • The Microbusiness Marketing Leverage Program: opens July 16, 2024, closes August 22, 2024.
  • Special Events & Festivals Program for 2025 opens July 16, 2024, closes September 26, 2024.
  • VA250 Marketing Leverage Program opens August 1, 2024, closes September 17, 2024.

USDA Announces $12 Million in Grant Funding to Support Dairy Initiatives


June 24th, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced $12 million in available grant funding to support processing capacity expansion, on-farm improvements, and technical assistance services to producers through the Dairy Business Innovation Initiatives (DBI). Applications must be submitted electronically through www.grants.gov by 11:59 p.m. ET on August 27, 2024. More information is available here.

DoorDash $10K Grant - Restaurant Disaster Relief Fund


This grant provides $10,000 grants to local restaurants affected by state or federally-declared natural disasters. Applications for the current round close September 3, 2024, at 6 p.m. ET. To be eligible, a business must be experiencing hardship due to a natural disaster, have a maximum of three locations, employ fewer than 50 employees per location, and have revenues of $3M or less per location in the last 12 months.
