AAHOA Applauds One-Year Delay of Tariff Increases on Furniture and Cabinetry
AAHOA welcomes the one-year delay of scheduled tariff increases on upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets, and bathroom vanities, originally set for January 1. The existing 25 percent tariff will remain in place while trade negotiations continue.
Furniture, cabinetry, and related fixtures are significant investments for hotels, particularly for small business owners undertaking renovations, brand-mandated updates, or new development. This pause gives owners time to plan, invest, and continue property improvements without sudden cost increases.

Labor Update: DHS and DOL Signal 35,000 Supplemental H-2B Visas for FY 2026
AAHOA is alerting members to a joint announcement from the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security (DHS) and Labor (DOL) indicating their intent to release 35,000 supplemental H-2B visas for fiscal year 2026, covering employers with H-2B start dates between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026.
What this means for members:
- Additional H-2B visas are expected to help address ongoing labor shortages, but key details are not yet finalized, including application timing, eligibility, and visa allocation.
- A formal rule is expected to be published in the Federal Register in the coming weeks, and all details remain subject to change.
- The 35,000 supplemental visas announced are significantly fewer than in recent years, when approximately 66,000 visas were made available. If demand exceeds supply, DHS may impose additional eligibility requirements or use a lottery process.

U.S. RevPAR +7.9% y/y last week; Sizable bifurcation amid the leisure heavy New Year's holiday week
As Truist Securities wrote, "Overall, U.S. RevPAR was +7.9% y/y for the week ending 1/3/2026, per STR/CoStar, above the prior week's result of -7.0% y/y and above the 10-week average of -0.2% y/y. Last week exhibited extremely bifurcated results between chain scales amid the leisure heavy New Year's holiday week. Luxury RevPAR (+13.7% y/y) was again the best performing chain scale while Economy RevPAR (-4.7% y/y) was the worst performing chain scale, a substantial ~18 point delta. In a nutshell, reflective of the k-shaped economy (and also some continued pressure on Limited Service hotels from last year’s hurricane comp), the upper-end is doing well and the lower-end continues to underperform. Upscale RevPAR: +7.3% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +6.6% y/y."
