Sixty-one percent of guests would pay more for a personalized hotel experience. Only 23 percent get one. That gap is the opportunity AI is closing, but only for hoteliers who understand AI is no longer about recommendations after the fact. It is about anticipation, operational intelligence, and a network that can act in real time. Here is what hoteliers should do now.

Strong Roots, Stronger AAHOA
Long before Rahul Patel became a hotelier, he was a farmer. He woke before dawn in Surat, India, tended soil that didn’t always cooperate, and learned that the quality of the harvest is determined by the depth and strength of its roots.
When Patel came to the United States in 2004, that mindset came with him, and it’s guided every decision he has made since, including now as the 2026–2027 Chairman of AAHOA. His theme for his Chairmanship is “Strong Roots, Stronger AAHOA.” In the latest issue of Today's Hotelier, we hear more from Patel on how he plans to cultivate AAHOA's roots in the year ahead.

U.S. RevPAR +2.0% y/y last week; moderate growth & less bifurcation in a clean-comp week
As Truist Securities wrote, "Overall, U.S. RevPAR was +2.0% y/y for the week ending 5/9/2026, per STR/CoStar, below the prior week's result of +3.2% y/y and the 10-week average of +4.7% y/y. We note that in the first clean-comp week post the Easter shift, last week's results showed less bifurcation across chain scales than recent trend. The gap between Luxury and Economy RevPAR growth narrowed to 360bps, just under half the YTD average weekly gap of 670bps. Sunday was the strongest day of the week for the overall U.S. with RevPAR +3.8% y/y and results gradually decelerated as the week progressed before reaccelerating into the weekend; we see this reflective of Leisure slightly outperforming Business/Group. Upscale RevPAR: +1.4% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +2.3% y/y."
