AAHOA Supports Introduction of the Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act of 2025 | |
Last week, AAHOA announced its support for the Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act of 2025, which aims to deter frivolous lawsuits and restore accountability to the legal system – a critical issue for small-business owners like hoteliers.
The legislation would:
- Make sanctions for frivolous lawsuits mandatory rather than discretionary.
- Eliminate the 21-day "safe harbor" period that allows withdrawal of frivolous claims without consequence.
- Require payment of attorney fees and other expenses for parties harmed by frivolous filings.
- Allow additional sanctions, including striking pleadings, dismissing cases, or imposing financial penalties, to deter future violations.

AAHOA Responds to New U.S. Tariffs on Furniture and Cabinetry | The U.S. has announced new tariffs on kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, and upholstered furniture, effective Oct. 1, 2025 – 50 percent on cabinets and vanities and 30 percent on upholstered furniture. These added costs come as hoteliers are already facing significant financial pressures. As announced in an Advocacy Alert to members last week, AAHOA is urging policymakers to find balanced solutions that support U.S. manufacturing without placing an unsustainable burden on small-business hotel owners. | | | | |

U.S. RevPAR -6.6% y/y last week; soft results due to Rosh Hashanah holiday calendar shift | | |
As Truist Securities wrote, "Overall, U.S. RevPAR was -6.6% y/y for the week ending 9/27/2025, per STR/CoStar, below the prior week's result of -1.4% y/y and below the trailing 10-week average of -1.4% y/y. Last week's results were negatively impacted by the timing/holiday calendar shift of Rosh Hashanah, which took place from 9/22–9/24 in 2025 compared to 10/2–10/4 in 2024. An early-midweek holiday is particularly impactful to convention/group demand; Group RevPAR was -18.4% y/y last week. As a rule of thumb when analyzing the weekly data, if Group results are abnormally strong or weak, which they were last week, there is a holiday shift going on. Upscale RevPAR: -6.3% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: -4.3% y/y."
