Indian Americans: From “Model Minority” to a Community Under Scrutiny | U.S. RevPAR +5.5% y/y last week; Prior week holiday shift hurt Group; easy comp for Mid/Econ from 2025 gov’t shutdown | | |
As Truist Securities wrote, "Last week's results were solid at the headline level, but the chain scale and segment results were influenced by y/y comps. As we noted last week and will continue to see in coming weeks, 2025's government shutdown dragged on lower chain scale RevPAR in last year's comparable week, creating an easy y/y comp that drove last week's Midscale/Economy RevPAR +8%/+6% y/y, respectively. Upper-end Group RevPAR faced a somewhat difficult y/y comparison, likely from the mid-week timing of Yom Kippur last year (10/1-10/2) pushing some Group business into last year's comparable week and San Francisco's Dreamforce Conference moving to September this year from last week's comparable 2025 week. These factors are the likely drivers of last week's Group RevPAR down 5% y/y (Pacific Group -15%) and Luxury/Upper Upscale's respective +1%/+3%. Upscale RevPAR: +5.5% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +6.8% y/y."
