Remembering Jayantalil (JK) Patel, Past AAHOA Chair | Past AAHOA Chairman (1996-97) Jayantalil (JK) Patel passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the age of 85. After immigrating to the U.S. from Kenya, Patel purchased his first hotel in 1979 and eventually developed, owned, and operated hotels throughout the Southeast. During his chairmanship, he focused on fair franchising and raising awareness of AAHOA among Indian American hoteliers. U.S. RevPAR -5.3% y/y last week; Weak headline results impacted by difficult hurricane y/y comparisons | | |
As Truist Securities wrote, "Overall, U.S. RevPAR was -5.3% y/y for the week ending 10/25/2025, per STR/CoStar, below the prior week's result of -0.7% y/y and below the trailing 10-week average of -1.7% y/y. Last week's results were impacted by a number of factors including: 1) Tough hurricane-related y/y comps. Economy RevPAR was -8.5% y/y, Houston was -13.5%; Miami was -10.3%, and Tampa was -29.0%. 2) Taylor Swift concerts in New Orleans last year (RevPAR -41.9% y/y). 3) Tough group comps including in Boston, Las Vegas, and San Diego. We estimate the above in aggregate represented ~400 bps of RevPAR impact. Beyond the above, there is continued customer bifurcation and group attrition. Upscale RevPAR: -5.5% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: -5.0% y/y."
