AAHOA Calls for National Response After Multiple Hotelier Murders in 72 Hours | | |
The murders of three hoteliers last week follow the slaying of a hotel manager last month in Dallas, TX, which came on the heels of the 2024 murders of hoteliers in Oklahoma City, OK, and in Sheffield, AL. AAHOA is calling for law enforcement, policymakers, and hospitality leaders to collaborate and protect the country's hoteliers. Read AAHOA's statement on the recent tragedies here.
AAHOA recently hosted a dedicated virtual learning session, which covered proven steps to strengthen security, perform due diligence, and mitigate the risk of crime, as well as ways to support teams in processing trauma, accessing counseling resources, and feeling secure at work.

One Question About American Hotels Led to ‘The Greatest Immigration Story Never Told’ | Amar Shah grew up in the motel world, and though he struck out on his own path, he later returned to his roots to answer one question: How Indian Americans came to dominate hotel ownership in the U.S. That led him to AAHOA and AAHOACON, where he connected with hoteliers whose stories he featured in a short film detailing the history of hotel ownership, The Patel Motel Story. Palm Bay Council Votes to Censure Councilman Langevin | The Palm Bay City Council voted last week to censure Councilman Chandler Langevin after his racist remarks targeting Indian Americans. Residents, business owners, political figures, and other community members testified. The council is seeking to suspend Langevin, who refused to resign or publicly apologize for his comments. AAHOA strongly condemned Langevin's rhetoric and continues to stand with the Palm Bay community and Indian Americans across Florida. | | | | |

As Truist Securities wrote, "Overall, U.S. RevPAR was -0.4% y/y for the week ending 10/4/2025, per STR/CoStar, above the prior week's result of -6.6% y/y and above the trailing 10-week average of -1.4% y/y. Last week's results were noisy given the holiday calendar shifts of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (YK on the 2025 week and RH on the 2024 week, both starting on a Wednesday evening). Helping results was a major convention in Las Vegas. Tampa and other parts of the Southeast continue to have a tough hurricane comp (Helene). Outside of above, overall results were generally soft and highly bifurcated – consistent with recent weeks. Upscale RevPAR: -2.1% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: -3.2% y/y."
