Hoteliers Say New U.S. Interest Rate Hike Both Opens and Closes Doors | U.S. RevPAR +10.4% y/y last week; A strong week for all chain scales, perhaps a lingering tailwind from later Labor Day | | |
As Truist Securities wrote, "Overall, U.S. RevPAR was +10.4% y/y for the week ending 9/19/2026, per STR/ CoStar, above the prior week's result of -6.2% y/y and the 10-week average of +6.0% y/y. Last week's results were strong with RevPAR ranging between +9-11% across the chain scales. We suspect the strong showing may be a residual effect of this year's later timing of Labor Day, as last week was the first full work week following the holiday. Monday-Thursday RevPAR (+11-13% y/y) outperformed Friday/Saturday/Sunday (+6-9% y/y), which we view as indicative of the relative strength of last week's Business travel compared to Leisure. Upscale RevPAR: +9.7% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +10.6% y/y."
