House Calls as “Compassionate Care”

Aaron Yao

We spoke with HCCI's Dr. Aaron Yao, PhD, Director of Research and Analytics, about why he loves house calls. He says he believes that “house call providers should go to patients and take care of patients... We're the healthy, we're the strong. We should go to the weak, to the sick.Dr. Yao’s dedication to house calls is backed by his dedication to using research and data to improve home care and expand access for house calls, which he says is, “the way compassionate care should be. HCCI's mission is aligned with my personal purpose...about a purpose-driven life.

Become an HCCInsider and Double Your Impact

Over 5.9 million homebound and medically complex patients cannot access the care they need from the comfort of their homes. You can create a lasting impact by joining HCCInsiders with a monthly commitment. Your gift will bring access and quality care to more patients every month and allow HCCI to increase its offerings and continue to plan for the future.

As an HCCInsider, for only $50 a month, your donation (which will be doubled by a generous HCCI donor) will cover the cost for our staff and external experts to research, prepare, and deliver free webinars. These webinars benefit our community of practices, providers, and other stakeholders in the home-centered care field. Many of them are free to attend, and past webinars are archived and remain available to the community.

The Power of Home-Based Care

Amie Peterson

Mother Nature isn’t always a benevolent parent, delivering devastating earthquakes, killer storms, raging wildfires, and dangerous floods. Many brave souls respond to these natural crises—police, emergency workers, firefighters, and more. But we also need to add another role to this honorable list: home-based primary care providers.

Last year, HCCI spoke with Amie Peterson, a nurse practitioner, MSN APRN-BC, with Millennium Physician Group on Florida’s Southwest coast, and Greg Tisdale, nurse practitioner MSN, FNP-C, with On-Site Health in Flowood, a suburb of Mississippi’s capital city. They both experienced natural disasters and continued caring for their patients—even though collapsed bridges, flooding, and power loss tried to stop them. It is heroic providers like Peterson and Tisdale that remind us of the power of home-based care.
