There are some very good reasons to experiment with growing houseplants, cacti and succulents from seed:

  • First of all, it is fun – watching peculiar little seedlings emerge from seeds that you’ve sown is hugely rewarding! It’s something you can do with children on a rainy afternoon in the summer holidays.
  • It is a cheap way of filling your home with plants – if you find yourself with an understandable houseplant addiction, it is better to spend a few pounds on some packets of seeds rather than a lot more on larger plants.
  • When you grow from seed, the emerging plants will adapt to your environment right from the beginning so are more likely to succeed and thrive.
