Returning Home

Good Afternoon -

We hope this message finds you well and enjoying the start of summer. We are excited for your experiences abroad this fall and look forward to welcoming you back to campus during the Spring 2023 semester.

The purpose of this message is to reinforce the University’s expectations regarding Spring 2023 Housing and address questions that have surfaced to our office.

TIMELINE

Students who are abroad during the Fall 2022 semester will take part in our Spring Only Housing Selection Process towards the end of the fall semester. Below is an overview of that process:

  • In early November, we will open the Spring Only Housing Application. At this time, students may begin forming roommate groups and if interested enter the off-campus lottery.
  • Note: On-campus roommate groups will need to be small (max of 4); off-campus roommate groups may not exceed four students (including any full-year students).
  • November is also the timeframe when students may be pulled into vacancies on campus, please see the section towards the end of this message for more details.
  • In mid-November (before Thanksgiving Break), we will share off-campus lottery outcomes.
  • Note: we anticipate there will be far fewer off-campus lottery releases than in previous years.
  • Students with less than six semesters of housing credit should not make any plans to live off campus unless they have been released in writing from the residency requirement by the Office of Residence Life and Housing.
  • In mid-December, students will participate in Spring Only Housing Selection to self-select your actual spring room and meal plan.
  • Note: Options will be limited; you are not guaranteed to be able to select with a roommate group or roommate of choice. It is possible that you will need to fill an empty bed in a double room with an existing roommate.
  • You will receive an email (at your WFU email address) with specific instructions to select your spring housing and meal plan. This email will also include your selection time. All selection times will be in Eastern time, so please plan accordingly.

PULL INS

As you plan for Spring Only Housing Selection, please note the following regarding pull-in (i.e., having existing students on campus pull-in students who are studying abroad into their room/apartment/suite):

  • Students graduating in December or going abroad for the Spring semester may not “leave” their housing spaces to other students.
  • Spaces cannot be held during the fall semester for students returning from abroad for the Spring semester.
  • If an entire living unit (suite/apartment) is vacated, then that unit will go into the Spring Only Housing Selection process.
  • If a unit has remaining residents, those students may pull-in students who are returning from abroad.
  • The students currently on-campus will request the pull-in and students returning from abroad will receive communication/instructions from our office on finalizing their housing/meal plan.
  • Information about our spring only processes will begin to come out in early October 2022, so keep an eye out for details related to your plan for Spring 2023.

Additional details and information will be shared in the coming months, but we hope this provides you the information needed to begin planning for your return from abroad. Again, we want to stress the importance of not making any plans to live off campus unless you have been released in writing from the Office of Residence Life and Housing.
