A Final Look Back at 2021...
The Department of Housing Services has experienced monumental growth over the last year, as we continue to provide one of the most fundamental needs a person can have—housing.
In a joint letter from Washington County Chair Kathryn Harrington and Department of Housing Services Director Komi Kalevor they shared, “Housing instability and homelessness hit our region hard, with many individuals and families doubling up in homes, living in RVs or shelters, or sleeping in cars or outside. These challenges were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, but we met these challenges by incorporating new and game changing funding from the federal, state, and regional levels into new and existing housing and homeless programs.”
In our annual end of year report, look at what our department has been up to over the last year and see a few highlights in the graphic below. We have served more people than ever before, partnered with new organizations, hired new staff to do complex work, allocated new housing vouchers to those most in need with additional rental subsidy on its way, built new affordable housing, and allocated substantial funding to renovate our current affordable housing.
