NEW MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

Member — Shall have completed (7) civil jury trials to jury verdict or hung jury as lead counsel and acquired 100 points under the trial equivalency provisions as defined by Bylaw IV, Section 1. The 100 points shall include all points earned from the seven (7) civil trials to jury verdict or hung jury as lead counsel. No more than 30 of the 100 points for the Member class may be from felony jury trials. The applicant shall further possess the other and additional professional and ethical attributes and accomplishments as becomes one committed to the preservation of the Seventh Amendment. Each such person shall be admitted to the rank of “Member” and shall have the right to any other class of membership. (There are other requirements for other Ranks of membership.)

**Applications will be reviewed by the National ABOTA Executive Membership Committee at the July 11, 2026 National Board Meeting. New members will be announced by National after the meeting.

THE NOMINATION PROCESS

1)   Member & Second Nominator nominate with HOUSTON Nomination Form

- Nominees complete Trial Worksheets

- Member & second nominator review and sign, then send to current Chapter President, Dwaine Massey and Executive Director, Amy Wurdeman by Friday, 02/13/26 (see below for contact information).


2)   Membership Committee meets, reviews nominations and worksheets.


3)   Nominees are vetted by members of the Membership Committee.


4)   Executive Committee makes final review, sets ballot.


5)   General Membership Meeting – members vote on nominees.


6)   Those approved for membership complete ABOTA Application (from ABOTA website), send with check for $300 to current chapter President, Dwaine Massey, by Friday, 05/15/26 (do NOT send to the National office – it will delay the process, and they will return it to us!).


7)   ONLY the Chapter President submits all applications and worksheets to National ABOTA Executive Membership Committee for approval; any submitted directly will be returned.


8)   ABOTA Executive Membership Committee meets during July National Board Meeting, reviews applications.


9)   New members are notified.


10) New Members Inducted at Annual Awards Dinner at the end of the year.
