How Are Your Kids?
by Adam Powell, President & CEO
As normally undemanding tasks (like buying toilet paper) begin to resemble the Hunger Games, businesses shutter, and cities move to ordering home confinement, let’s not forget about the kids. While some may be trapped in violent households, other kids face a different kind of danger. These kids are quietly suffering with untreated depression or poor mental health.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month
Coping with COVID-19 as a Student
Your classes may now be virtual. You may now be at home, where you’re missing friends and finding studying difficult. Or maybe you’ve stayed put and you worry about your family. Perhaps you’re juggling many things as well as your own needs. You might have lost a job, if you are old enough to have one, or a family member has lost their job. As a student, you’re probably feeling anxious, sad and uncertain. These feelings are normal. And there are ways to lessen your stress.

In Such a Strange Time,
CISDR Staff Rise to the Challenge
It was early March, and schools across the Dallas region and the country were getting ready for a much-needed spring break. CISDR site staff were working in each of their schools, bringing in resources for all students and working directly with a caseload of nearly 100 students. Suddenly, our staff found themselves facing closed buildings and students who must stay home to protect their health and safety. How could they do the essential work and provide services to make sure these children and their families don’t fall through the cracks?

Are You Up for the Challenge?
“Are you up for the challenge?” It’s a question we often hear when talking about running a marathon, a triathlon, an iron man, or climbing Mt. Everest. We may hear it when we’re trying to quit smoking or lose weight. However, it’s not a question we hear when asked about publicly sharing our personal story of “what mental health awareness means to me.” Share a picture/video telling your personal story with mental health awareness, and you could win a $50 restaurant gift card!

Unique Ways of Connecting with Students
CISDR site staff Hannah Clark decided to take a unique approach in reaching the students in the CISDR program at her school. Hannah recognized the struggles her students were facing, and knowing they were more likely watch a video than read an email, Hannah created a video to address some of those struggles.
