Dear CASA Supporter
On any given day, there are more than 550 children and youth in foster care in Lake County. Children who have experienced abuse or neglect are involved with multiple systems—the court system, the child welfare system, the health care system, and the school system. As a result, returning back to school can be a difficult and unpredictable.

CASA volunteers are in frequent contact with teachers and school administrators to form a partnership to better understand the child’s unique strengths and challenges. These interactions with the child’s school, combined with the volunteer’s relationship with the child, empower our volunteers to advocate in court for what the child needs to thrive academically. Our goal is to not only to advocate in court, but also in the classroom.

One of the other ways our volunteers do that is by setting up the children and youth they serve for success by making sure they have everything they need to learn and perform in the classroom. CASA hosted our annual back to school open house on August 3rd where volunteers were able to pick up school supplies, clothing, toys, and other items that the children in their case need.

If you know a CASA volunteer, I hope you will thank them for their work, especially during this important time. And if you, or someone you know, is ready to step in and be a CASA, we are ready with the training and support needed.
With gratitude,
Terri Zenner Greenberg
Executive Director

Thank you St. Joseph's Catholic Church!
St. Joseph Catholic Church has consistently supported us since 2014. Even in 2022, despite being faced with a significantly increased need to feed the hungry through the church’s food pantry, St. Joseph did not waver in its support.
In addition to providing annual monetary support, 17 of our CASAs are church parishioners. Together, they are serving 44 children related to 21 cases. We appreciate and honor the church and member CASAs for their unrelenting dedication to the service and philanthropy of our community’s most vulnerable. Thank you!
Congratulations and Welcome to our New Volunteers!
Congratulations and welcome to our wonderful volunteer CASA advocates who completed their 40-hour training and were sworn-in by Judge Matthews on July 28th.

Thank you all for taking a stand against child abuse and neglect, and for standing up for the children who need your voice!
Your Employer May Be Able to Support CASA!
Did you know that many companies will provide generous grants to non-profits when their employees complete a specific number of volunteer hours? Some companies also have matching programs and match donations that employees make to organizations! Visit our Double the Donation page linked below to see if your company will match your donation or provide a volunteer grant to CASA!
Kudos for some amazing CASA Volunteers!
To CASA Julie for her excellent efforts in ensuring her CASA child and his sibling could go to a special camp this summer. She went above and beyond to help the family work out transportation challenges and have the supplies they needed.

To CASA Kate for her ongoing support to ensure her CASA children’s needs are being met. Kate has been a liaison between the foster parents, her CASA youth, service providers and caseworker to ensure her CASA youth are receiving the services they are in need of. This has ultimately pushed services to take place in the manner in which they have been recommended.

To CASA Jim for his willingness to take on a second case of a fourteen-year-old teen boy that needs a CASA. Jim did not hesitate when asked if he could handle another case stating, “I just want to help where I can -- that is why I am doing this work.”
