How Can I Keep From Singing?
Singing is important to God. In many of the psalms he tells us to sing to him. "Sing to him, sing praise to him" Psalm 105:2 "Sing praises to God, sing praises" Psalm 47:6. And in Zephaniah 3:17 it states, "He will rejoice over you with singing." What a wonderful image that is.
Singing keeps the brain alert and helps memory. It can be helpful as well for those with dementia. Singing can help children learn and store Bible verses and stories in their mind. Even the noted theologian Karl Barth, when asked how he would summarize the essence of the millions of words he had written on the subject replied, "Jesus loves me, this I know. For the Bible tells me so."
So as the old Sesame Street song goes...
Sing, sing a song. Make it simple to last your whole life long.
Don't worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear.
Just sing, sing a song.
