Online Resources and $500 Grants Available
 to Support Environmental Science Curriculum During Remote Learning  

We have expanded the Environmental Science  Resource  Grant Program to support the unexpected challenges of remote learning during this time. 
 
Online Resources
The Children and Nature Network  works to connect kids and families around the world to the benefits of nature. Each week, they post new resources from incredible partners, tips, tools, blogs and webinars.

NatureBridge has compiled their favorite lessons and modified them to bring the science and wonder of the natural world right into your home.

Save the Bay launched an Education Portal of adapted lessons from the field to support teachers doing remote learning and parents looking for educational activities for their children.

National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) has curated a list of select NEEF toolkits and activity guides that require minimal outdoor time.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration provides data analysis, webinars and virtual explorations of our planets oceans, all from within your home.

California Academy of Science has  curated an eclectic array of science-centric games, videos, and DIY projects to help you stay learning and engaged, wherever you are. They also have live webcams available to watch your favorite animals in their habitats.

North American Association for Environmental Education  includes a list of resources designed to keep learners of all ages interested and engaged during the crisis, from hands-on activities and lesson plans to websites, virtual tours, and a discussion forum to comment on the resources that are most helpful to you and others you would recommend. 

 
Grant Program

How can we support you?

Who 
Any K-12 teacher working at a low-income public school in Alameda County is eligible to apply.

We have increased the limit of grants per school! Each school is eligible for three total grants in one school year, one grant per teacher.

What 
Grants of up to $500 to enhance remote environmental science curriculum through projects, supplies, and professional development.  Examples of uses could include: 
  • Gardening supplies to mail to students to plant their own garden
  • At-home water testing kits
  • Materials for a compost and/or recycling unit
  • An online academic subscription 
However, this is a learning experience for us all. If you have a need, please email slira@venturesfoundation to request funding or share your project idea.
How
Submit a description of your idea and need, including the following information:
  • Date and notation on top that request is for an Environmental Science Grant
  • School and district name, address, telephone and fax numbers
  • Your name, grade level, email address
  • Description of your classroom and funding need
  • Total amount requested
  • Itemized list of how the money will be spent in relation to your Environmental Science curriculum (If you will need to use part of the funds to mail items to students, please include that in your itemization)
  • Who the check should be made payable to (school, district or PTA only) and the address the check should be mailed to 
  • Applications must be signed by both the submitting teacher and principal. (If you cannot get your application physically signed, please cc your principal when submitting your request by email)

Send your request in as soon as it is ready. If approved, funds will immediately be disbursed.
