How God defines His Love
What is the love of God? If you ask believers this question, you might get a variety of answers. Some might say to love God means duty or obedience. Others might say it’s commitment or serving one another. Moreover, some may say it is not sinning because God hates sin. If you love God, you won’t live in sin.
While all these answers can certainly reflect expressions of love for God, none have anything to do with what the
“love of God”
really is.
“Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son
to be
the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us” (1 John 4:10-12).
Don’t get confused about what love is all about. For sure, it isn’t about you loving God. It is all about God loving you. When we receive the love God has for us, we can love as He does because we have discovered how He loves.
“We love God because He loved us first” (1 John 4:19).
How we treat people is evidence that we know God.
“He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love” (1 John 4:8).
Those who know God are those who love people.
If you want to be a lover of people as God is, by faith, simply embrace the fact He loves you. When you believe He does, His love will flow effortlessly from your heart to others.
You can’t give what you don’t have, and you can’t lead where you have never gone.
Accept God’s love, and it will take you where you desire to bring others.
