Friends,
We are so proud to have manufactured in Arizona for four decades. Intel's technology enables incredible experiences and powers our world's digital infrastructure, but it's also made our community stronger and more resilient.
Today, we celebrate our 40th anniversary in Arizona - on Manufacturing Day - with a reminder from our CEO Bob Swan of the positive impact our manufacturing presence has had in our state. We're also happy to share that a new advanced semiconductor project is coming to our Chandler facility.
And, in case you missed it, our new head of manufacturing shares why manufacturing is a competitive advantage for Intel, the Intel Foundation is making a new education investment in Arizona, and we make the case for Arizona organizations to invest more in water. Read on to learn more.

Why Manufacturing Matters
In October 1980, the first silicon wafers came off our production line at “Fab 6” in Chandler. That marked the start of what is now one of Intel’s largest manufacturing sites. Four decades later, Arizona is now home to 12,000 of the brightest minds helping Intel define the future of technology.
“Forty years from now, how and what we manufacture may look quite different. But what won’t change is our belief in the power of technology to enrich lives and our relentless effort to provide the technology foundation for the world’s innovation. "
— Bob Swan,
Intel Chief Executive Officer
Manufacturing is important not only for the delivery of essential products, but also because it makes communities stronger. Our manufacturing presence powers the local economy, attracting talent, suppliers and other businesses.
And though it's one thing to share the numbers, it's even more important for us to realize and recognize that behind each local business we support, there's a person that's able to achieve their goals.
And behind every volunteer hour and nonprofit donation, there is someone we're helping to empower. When we invest in Arizona, we're investing in the future of our community. Because when our community is strong, we are stronger too.

Intel Wins U.S. Government Advanced Packaging Project
Intel Federal LLC has been awarded the second phase of the U.S. Government’s State-of-the-Art Heterogeneous Integration Packaging (SHIP) prototype program. SHIP enables the U.S. Government to capitalize on Intel’s tens of billions of dollars of annual R&D and manufacturing investment by providing access to Intel’s state-of-the-art semiconductor packaging capabilities in Arizona and Oregon.
“As a longtime Arizona manufacturer, Intel’s continued investment in our state helps to advance our economy and make our community strong. Arizona is proud to have Intel as one of our state’s top companies.”
— Arizona Governor Doug Ducey
“Intel and Chandler are synonymous with innovation," said Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke. "As Intel has grown, Chandler has benefitted not only from the economic impact and jobs Intel has created, but also Intel’s commitment to our community through philanthropic activities, schools and environmental stewardship. We look forward to many more years of partnership.”

Diversity in STEM Starts Afterschool
The Intel Foundation, the STEM Next Opportunity Fund, and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation are joining forces to launch the Million Girls Moonshot movement.
The Arizona Center for Afterschool Excellence will receive a multi-year grant to provide important training and professional development opportunities for its STEM partners in afterschool programs. By equipping youth with emerging technology skills including Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, and the Internet of Things, our hope is for Million Girls Moonshot to advance gender equity and parity in the workforce.

The Business Responsibility to Protect Arizona’s water
Corporate water stewardship can play a powerful role in Arizona’s sustainable water future. At the end of 2019, Intel, Microsoft, and the Water Funder Initiative committed more than $750,000 to support the Colorado River Indian Tribes initiative and the Drought Contingency Plan. For Intel, our involvement in this project supports our 2030 goal to achieve net positive water use.
In addition to conserving water in our operations, we are partnering with local nonprofits to fund more than a dozen water restoration projects to benefit Arizona and restore more than 800 million gallons of water each year.
