This Sunday's Sermon and Song List

At one of the most difficult times in Jacob's life God intervened to show Jacob that He would not leave Him. God didn't do this because Jacob deserved it. God stayed faithful to Jacob because God is gracious, merciful and committed to his plans for the salvation of the world. This week, in Genesis 29 we'll see this theme continue: God is with His people. But what for? What is He with us for? What should we expect because He is with us? Chapter 29 will show us that the presence of God provides many blessings but also many (much needed) confrontations and challenges. Chapter 29 shows us that God will use every little thing in our life to shape us for his service and for fellowship with him forever!

To get yourself ready to sing on Sunday you can start listening to the songs we'll be singing together:

  • Who You Say I Am
  • King Of Kings
  • Raise Up The Crown
  • Jesus Paid It All
  • I Saw The Light

We created a playlist on Youtube in case you want to start listening today. You can find that by clicking HERE.

How Not To Be Harsh With Your Children

Last week I had the pleasure of teaching a parent session on how not to be harsh with your children. There's a link below to the whole lesson. Here's a preview and then you can click the link if you're interested in more:

God clearly commands us not to be harsh (Ephesians 6:4, Colossians 3:21, Proverbs 15:1)

A. Ephesians 4:26-31 is a good example of what harshness looks like

B. Harshness is a work of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-26)

What To Do

1. Pay attention to yourself (1 Corinthians 10:12, Matthew 15:18-20; James 4:1-4)

2. Don't keep score (Mathew 18:21; 1 Corinthians 13:4-5)

3. Teach and model genuine confession, repentance and reconciliation (1 John 1:8-9)

4. Practice Saturation Love (Romans 2:14; Matthew 3:16-17; Exodus 20:1-2; Ephesians 5;1)

NEW Women' s Bible Study

The book of Judges cracks a window into depths of the human soul. Watch a nation struggle with its identity and relationship to its God. Heroes and heroines arise, who seem to have the potential to save Israel. But in the end, each proves to be a broken savior that cannot deliver.

In this series, pastor and author J.D. Greear wades into the book of Judges to shine a light onto the muddy waters of human rebellion. The stories and truths within are not just archaic tales with no relevance for us today. Rather, J.D. works through each chapter unpacking the truth of God’s grace in the midst of human wickedness, and shows how only the divine can redeem the fallen.

We will meet 9:00 AM Thursday mornings in the women's ministry area beginning August 18. Questions or if you need childcare please contact the office or Mary Holdahl (605) 661-1966.

Philippians is a profound call to joy! One of the things that makes it especially profound is that Paul wrote it from prison. Imagine that! A man in prison, with joy! The church has the same amazing opportunity today: to have profound joy in times of great trouble. This amazing letter shows an intensely personal pastoral call to joy in Christ, gospel focus, doctrinal seriousness, intense prayer and growth in Christ-likeness. We will simply walk through this book, verse by verse, and sit under this timeless call to unique Christian joy.
