2020 Standard Mileage Rates Announced
The Internal Revenue Service recently issued the 2020 optional standard mileage rates to be used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, charitable, medical or moving purposes.

As of January 1, 2020, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (also vans, pickups or panel trucks) are:

How Will the 2020 Form W-4 Impact Income Tax Withholding?
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has released another preview of Form W-4 to the public. The new design aims to simplify the withholding system, replacing complicated worksheets with questions designed for the layman. The hope is that the form will help employees report more accurate amounts, allowing the IRS a better assessment of taxes paid.

Employee Spotlight: Patrick Spettel
Payne Nickles & Company would like to introduce one of the members of our Norwalk office staff: Patrick Spettel!

Pat is a native of Norwalk, and after graduating from St. Paul High School, he attended the University of Toledo and received a Bachelors in Accounting. He continued his education at The Ohio State University, receiving a masters in Accounting. Pat has also earned his CPA. He is a staff accountant specializing in audit as well as individual and business taxation.

Pat and his wife Leslie live in Norwalk with their basset beagle named Duke. They enjoy spending time with family and friends. Pat is also an avid runner and has competed in triathlons and marathons. He has a goal to race at least once in every state. His philosophy of life comes from the movie Shawshank Redemption, a great movie with a storyline centered around an accountant -- “Get busy living or get busy dying”.
