Expedited WIC Enrollment
The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Division administers the California WIC program. This program helps families across the state by providing nutrition education, breastfeeding support, healthy foods, and referrals to health care and other community services.
To make applying more convenient, the seven WIC agencies in Alameda County have developed a new expedited process for WIC enrollment. If someone contacts 211 looking for WIC services, our Community Resource Specialists can provide links that open enrollment forms directly with the WIC agency of their choice. Then WIC responds within 1-2 business days to complete the enrollment. To learn more, please click here.

A former foster youth who moved to San Leandro from another county after spending time at Duel Vocational Institution called 211 for shelter, mental health, food, and tax preparation resources. He was unhoused, sleeping on the streets, and using drugs to cope. He asked for help quitting. 211 staff screened him for the County's Coordinated Entry System. Referrals to help with housing and other life skills and education assistance included: Covenant House California, Abode Service's Project Independence, and Beyond Emancipation's Information and Referral.
Medi-Cal information was provided to help sign up for healthcare, and SNAP information was given as a food-insecure resource. Kick-It California resources were shared to help him quit smoking and IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program for filing his taxes. Finally, staff connected him to The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Housing and Economic Rights Advocates for assistance with banking support and consumer education.
