Matching Donation Challenge to Help Donkeys in Kenya!
Every $10 that you donate to Brooke USA's "Women 4 Donkeys" campaign will benefit 3 donkeys and the women who rely on them -- and the impact of your gift will be doubled!
Thanks to our donors, we just met our initial goal of $50,000 toward our "Women 4 Donkeys" campaign, so we will receive a matching grant of $50,000 from Brooke USA Ambassador Margaret H. Duprey (thank you, Margaret!!!)

Please help us fund the next $50,000 so we can receive another matching grant, also for $50,000, from Fritz and Claudine Kundrun.

Our Women 4 Donkeys campaign will teach tens of thousands of women in Kenya important animal husbandry and business skills that will improve the welfare of their animals and increase the potential to earn a livelihood. Our colleagues at Brooke East Africa in Nairobi have partnered with the highly regarded Caritas International to help facilitate this program.
UPDATE:
Guatemala Volcano's
Equine
Victims
Thanks to many of our Brooke USA donors, we're very happy to announce that we raised more than $15,000 to assist the equine emergency efforts in Guatemala. Between our sister charity, Brooke, and Brooke USA, we raised a total of $25,000 --
which is exactly what the team on the ground requested to help get them through the month providing food, water, and veterinary care for the equines in the volcano zone.

Thank you for having responded so quickly last month and for your generosity!

Children in Afghanistan bring Improvements to Equine Welfare

One of the biggest strengths of Brooke's Afghanistan program is its partner, the Dutch Committee for Afghanistan, which works with children to improve the welfare of the country's equines.

Children are an important group because culturally they are able to interact with anybody and can go into the homes of others in their community. Many of them also handle animals or grow up to be in charge of them.

The DCA has set up child volunteer groups and printed children's books in conjunction with role-playing exercises to educate children in good equine welfare practices.

Behavioral change among children is a sustainable way of improving equine welfare. Two of the volunteer children, who are now adults, are currently leading the adult welfare groups in their villages!

When you support Brooke USA, you allow Brooke to dedicate their resources to other programs, like this.
Brooke India on the Front Lines of War Against Deadly Glanders
Brooke India participated in a national level meeting called to jointly prepare an action plan for the Government of India to control and contain the highly infections equine disease Glanders in the country.

It was attended by Brooke India staff, government veterinarians, veterinarians from important research and diagnostic institutes and laboratories, Army veterinarians and experts from NGOs and private organizations.

The meeting resolved that a dynamic and flexible action plan be prepared which could be suitably modified to meet the requirements of all Indian states. There were discussions on preparing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for cases of Glanders being suspected, notification, testing of samples, transportation and euthanizing of animals.

Brooke Bricks to Help Horses who Work in India's Brick Kilns
Brooke has been chosen as the “Official Charity for the FEI World Equestrian Games™ Tryon 2018 (WEG).”

To commemorate, Brooke is building the Brooke Breezeway, at the Tryon International Equestrian Center that will feature dedicated “Brooke Bricks” in honor of both this iconic event and the important service provided by working equines around the world.
All proceeds will directly benefit Brooke Brick Kiln projects in India.

The horses, donkeys and mules’ work in brick kilns consists of transporting tons of bricks daily, both wet and dry, by cart or pack within the kilns and to other locations for use in India's construction industry.

Brooke Bricks will be made of bricks manufactured humanely in the United States, with no animals involved in the process.

Your Brooke Brick can be engraved to honor or memorialize a beloved person or pet!
LEAVE A LEGACY OF COMPASSION
Making a legacy gift—a gift given through your will, trust, or other estate plans—is a meaningful way to continue to improve the lives of working equines in the developing world for generations to come.

If you don’t have a will, or haven’t revised your will recently, the 2018 changes in tax law make now a great time to do it. Including Brooke USA in your estate plans doesn’t have to be difficult—it’s actually a fairly simple process. Cash contributions, appreciated stock, life insurance, and retirement assets are just a few of the ways you can use your estate plan to help Brooke USA continue our important work across the globe.

If you have questions about how to include Brooke USA in your will, please contact Amanda Miller, Major Gifts Officer, at (574) 286-7892 or amanda.miller@brookeusa.org. If you have included - or plan to include - Brooke USA in your estate plans, we’d love to know so we can recognize your support and thank you for your generosity!

Watering to Improve Welfare
One of the easiest ways for owners in the developing world to improve the overall health and welfare of their equine partners is to provide sufficient fresh, clean water.
It isn't easy in countries where water is not easily accessible for people, let alone animals. That's why we are so happy when we see owners voluntarily working to provide more for their animals as a result of having gone through Brooke's training programs.

Thank you for supporting programs like these through your gifts to Brooke USA!
