Providing Operational Supports to Build Worker Resilience
On April 29, Nancy Carre-Lee, Deputy Director for Child Protection and Permanency Operations, shared the New Jersey Department of Children and Families' operational approach to building resilience in the workforce. During the discussion she shared the following promising approaches and strategies:
  • Establishing Office of Staff Health and Wellness
  • Department’s leadership engaging staff in every aspect of decision-making during the pandemic
  • Conducting a staff survey to assess their needs during the pandemic
  • Funding the Worker2Worker peer reciprocal program to provide staff with mentoring and crisis debriefing
  • Instituting a SafeSignal app that equips staff with a “safety tether” to alert law enforcement if safety is compromised
  • Commissioner holding weekly staff meetings to keep all DCF staff abreast of relevant internal and external information
