My SPS Story: Kristina Callison, special education teacher, Springfield Option Site
β€œI went back to school, to earn my EdS, and my way of thinking changed over those two years. What if I allowed the students to make the decisions? What if I allowed my population to have some control? What if I treated my high school students like adults?

My students take ownership of their mistakes, of their trauma, and of their participation in their education. They ask for more, want to go deeper into interesting topics, and have more meaningful conversations.

My story is, I learned that building relationships within my community of students, holding them accountable for each other and supporting everyone when needed, made for an easier day and more successful outcome."
