CATHOLIC FAITH AT HOME RESOURCES OCTOBER 11
Who was Carlo Acutis?

On Oct. 10, 2020, this
Catholic Italian teenager will be beatified!
(i.e. Declared Blessed, the step before Canonization when one is publicly recognized as being a saint in heaven with God)

An inspiration for youth on how to participate in life in this world, but live authentically for the next,
Carlo was a gamer and computer programmer
who loved soccer and the Eucharist.
He created a site listing Eucharistic miracles around the world.

Born May 3, 1991, Carlo grew up in Italy.
Diagnosed with leukemia as a teenager,
Carlo offered his sufferings
for Pope Benedict XVI and for the Church, saying,
“I offer all the suffering I will have to suffer
for the Lord, for the Pope, and the Church.”

He died on Oct. 12, 2006,
buried in Assisi, because of his love for St. Francis of Assisi.

His cause for canonization began in 2013.
He was designated “Venerable” in 2018,
and will be designated “Blessed” October 10.

STEPS TO SAINTHOOD

All souls in heaven are Saints.
Formerly, the Catholic Church declared as “Saints”
those people who exemplified outstanding holiness
because they died as witnesses for the Faith (Martyrs)
or they lived a life of heroic virtue.

The exact number of canonized Saints is unknown
because not all recognized as Saints were officially canonized, particularly during the first half of the Catholic Church’s history.

Today, the canonization process is thorough and complex.
Despite this, a record number of Saints
have been canonized in the past thirty years!!!
About 2000 candidates are being evaluated today.

We see that God is busy in our lives - including through others!

Image is of St. Philomena whose remains were found with inscriptions indicating that she was a young martyr. After moving her remains to a church,
miracles began occurring in relation to her relics in their new home.
One is the healing of the beloved Cure of D'Ars, St. John Vianney.
