The data from 2022 is out and it was a “historically bad” year for car insurance carriers. For every $100 of premium collected for auto insurance, carriers paid out $111.80 in auto insurance claims. That is bad news for auto insurance rates!
Nearly 1/3 of all car accidents were rear-end collisions in 2022. That is by far the most common type of car accident. The frustrating thing about rear-end collisions is that these crashes are ALL preventable. The culprit, the driver was following too closely behind the vehicle in front of them.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration commissioned a study that presented some interesting facts.
- 29% of all crashes are rear-end collisions (that is the most common).
- Majority of rear-end collisions happen on dry, strait, flat roads during the daytime. That means adverse road conditions are not a major factor in rear-end collisions.
- 81% of those crashes occur when the leading vehicle has already come to a complete stop. Distracted drivers?
