HOW TO END MASS SHOOTINGS | |

Monday marked the 39th mass shooting of 2023, in Half Moon Bay, CA. But between the initial draft of this and now, there was another mass shooting in North Carolina. That’s nearly two mass shootings per day in the United States.
The sad reality of life in America right now is a constant fear of these mass shootings, at work, school, community gatherings – everywhere.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. While the Clinton-era assault weapons ban was in place from 1994-2004, the risk of an American being injured or dying in a shooting was 70% lower than it is today.
During that ban, mass shootings fell 37% compared to the decade prior. Since the George W. Bush administration and a Republican Congress allowed the ban to lapse, mass shootings have risen 189%.
We need a national assault weapons ban. The weapon used in one of the most recent attacks is legal in only one country: the United States. We can and should do so much more to protect one another. But a Republican House will never pass anything that goes against the gun manufacturers who bankroll their campaigns. So we need to register common sense Democrats who will help us elect a Democratic House, Senate, and re-elect President Biden so that we can expand on work like the Safer Communities’ Act, passed by Democrats and signed by President Biden last year.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 27 AND ON: WISCONSIN SUPREME BLITZ
In 2011, the Wisconsin GOP gerrymandered control of the state legislature with the most corrupt maps ever seen... and the Republican-majority state Supreme Court let them. But now one crucial seat is opening up on the bench and if we flip it, we flip the majority to progressive. And fix those maps! A blue Supreme Courty would also re-examine the 1849 abortion ban currently in effect, and the ongoing attacks on voting rights. This election's stakes are incredibly high.
That's why, in the run-up to this key April 4th election, we're partnering with our friends at The Union (see above!) on a massive voter registration and GOTV effort. We need all hands on deck, so please help out with as many of these events as you can:
