HOW TO MAKE YOUR SMALL KITCHEN LOOK AND FEEL BIGGER:
Not every house has a big, roomy kitchen. Here’s how to make yours look and feel bigger!
1. Paint the Cabinets White
White reflects light, creating the illusion that the walls or cabinets are receding.
2. Blend Surfaces
Sudden transitions (i.e., light walls to dark cabinets) can make a kitchen appear smaller.
3. Minimize Clutter
Minimizing clutter is especially crucial in smaller kitchens.
4. Light it Up
The lighter and brighter your kitchen, the bigger it will feel.
5. Reduce Hardware
Cabinet knobs and hinges can create those transitions we discussed earlier.
6. Bring the Outdoors In
Keeping your windows clear allows the light in and makes the outside an extension of your kitchen.
7. Replace Cabinet Doors With Glass
Replacing some of the upper cabinet doors with glass can make a kitchen look bigger.
8. Stick With Light and Bright Surfaces
Reflective surfaces (stainless steel or marble) reflect light.
9. Strategically Remove Upper Cabinets
Removing upper cabinets and adding shelving can make a kitchen feel more open and bigger.
10. Draw the Eye Up
Make the ceiling seem higher by taking the cabinets to the ceiling.
11. Utilize Horizontal Lines
Take advantage of the fact that horizontal lines can make things look bigger by strategically placing a striped rug or installing a backsplash with strong horizontal lines.
12. Stick With a Simple Range Hood
A big or intricate hood creates a big transition. It’s better to avoid that by sticking with a simple range hood.
