Make an "All About Me" Book
|
|
If your child is attending preschool this fall, introduce them to new teachers and classmates with an All About Me book! These personalized books are a creative way to share a “snapshot” of your child and help the preschool team understand how to best support your child in the classroom. Include pictures and sections such as “What Makes Me Laugh?”, “Things I Can Do by Myself,” or “How to Tell When I’m Having a Hard Time."
All About Me books are also a great way to help peers make connections with your child – does he or she love ice cream? Swimming in the ocean? Playing at the park? Highlight things your child may have in common with other kids at school – friendships often start with shared interests.

All About Me books can be created in a word document, power point or even hand-written. No time to make a book? HERE is a template to create a one-page Profile for your child – All About Me condensed to a single page!

Spotlight on Lorraine Chevarria
|
Lorraine Chevarria joined A Shared Vision as an Early Intervention Teacher of the Visually Impaired in 2019. She also works full time as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired and a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the Adams 12 Five Star school district.
Lorraine believes in building strong relationships with her families. “I believe early intervention is for the family, not just the child who qualified for services,” explains Lorraine. “Every member of the family plays a vital role in the success of the child, and I like to ensure the families’ values and concerns are embedded in each visit we have.” Lorraine also enjoys teaching braille and orientation and mobility.
A Colorado native, Lorraine loves spending time with her friends and family. When it’s football season, Lorraine cheers for the Denver Broncos. “I’ve been a Broncos fan right out of the womb!” Learn more about Lorraine and A Shared Vision's teachers HERE.

Ask the Expert -- What Is Sensory Learning?
|
Visually impaired children learn by touching, listening, smelling, tasting, moving, and using whatever vision they have. You teach your child by talking, touching, and playing during natural interaction times. You also teach when you give your child toys and ordinary household objects that vary in texture, weight, smell, sound, and color. The more sensory experiences you provide—experiences that allow your child use his senses and learn how to obtain information through them—both one at a time and simultaneously, during everyday routines and special family occasions, the better. Your creative, on-the-spot teaching is an essential part of your child's education. Learn more about "Parents as Teachers" HERE.
